Afraid that tomorrow will be the last day with my Honeybun. He has a horrible URI infection, tumors in his mouth, and now he is having trouble walking/standing up. Need to get him to the vet tomorrow, was going to go in for the URI this week, but the sudden not walking well makes it an ASAP visit. I'm so worried. Please say some prayers for my sweet, old man cat. Thank you!

The vet visit went remarkably well. Of course Honey didn't limp at all . He does have a really bad upper respiratory infection, he's very dehydrated, and we're not sure why he was/is limping.
The vet, one I was not familiar with actually, was very kind and good with Honey. Palpated all over and was very compassionate. She ordered a senior blood panel, a urine sample (which they couldn't get because his bladder was sooo tiny because he's dehydrated), and put him on clavamox drops for the next 10 days. They also did sub q fluids so he's not so dehydrated. Hope that's not something he'll be needing too much of, because I don't think I could do it here at home. I nearly passed out watching her put the needle in!:o
I'm hoping this will help him and that I'll have him around for a while yet. I'm still worried about the limping, it's so strange that he didn't do it at all at the vet, yet he dragged his back leg while here at home for the past 24 hours! Frustrating!!
Keep my boy in your prayers. We get the blood results tomorrow. Hoping he's not really sick, and that this is just a little set back.

I'm thinking all the good PT vibes worked.........so far! Let's keep them coming so Honeybun can get a clean bill of health. :D :D
I didn't think I could do sub-q's either. But I did them for Taz and now it's no big deal. Now I give my mom and brothers dogs their shots. So much cheaper.
Please give Honeybun some loves from me! I'm so happy he is home and seems to be on the road to recovery. :)

I'm so glad to hear this, Jen. They like to scare us and then rally. LOL As for the subQ's, you'd be surprised what you can do when you have to. I bawled my eyes out when I had to give my first one to Puddy. I jabbed myself and drew blood, the needle came out of Puddy and squirted fluid all over the place and I called my vet crying. He told me to bring her in and he'd show me again. After that, it was a piece of cake. Then later I had to give her shots and that was so simple that I was surprised. You can do it if you have to, girl. But right now, just enjoy your time w/Honeybun and give him lots of love from me and the Fur Posse.

Great news for Honeybun!!! Yes, the sub-q's can be quite intimidating at first but as Mary says, you'd be surprised what you can do when you are faced with it. Taking my Speckles and Max up to vet was not practical for me as I work full time and it stressed them out. So with the help of an emergency vet (I was crying there...) they showed me over and over again how to do it. My first try with Speckles was just as disasterous as Mary's was - I was bleeding all over.... and poor Specks was laying there as if to say "come on Mom, get it together..." :D
It is wonderful news that Honeybun is home with you. I pray for many more weeks and months of loving for the two of you.

He slept under my bed all night, sneezed a million times, lol, but other than that, didn't hear a peep out of him. This morning he ate his chicken, and I cornered him and gave him his clavamox. He howled like a banshee, like I was just torturing him, lol. Now to do this every day... yeah.... such fun.
He's limping like crazy again. I'm gonna beat his little butt for not doing it yesterday, and now limping worse!! How do they manage to do that?! Look like perfection at the vet, then you come home and they're doing exactly what you said they were doing???!!! The vet must think I'm a nut, but he's limping really badly!
Will report more when I get home tonight. Hope everyone has a good day! Keep those prayers coming, he needs them!!

Good news so far. Hoping the lab results are good news too.
As for the limping - does he ever go outside? Sparky had the same problem a couple of years - first limping and then not (and of course not at the vet), and other issues that would come and go. He was tested for Lyme's and was negative, but it was a false negative, and he actually did have it in spite of being vaccinated against it. A 30 day treatment with antibiotics and he was good as new.
Hoping you can get to the root of that problem, as I know how frustrating it can be.

None of my cats ever go outside, so it shouldn't be that. The vet didn't feel any breaks or anything... so she was really no help. If it keeps up, he's going back and we'll get an xray.

Video him limping so your vet knows your not crazy! ;) I took video of Zoee having one of her attacks years ago and the ER vet was pleased that I did so he could see exactly what she was doing. Because, of course, her symptoms had lessened by the time we got to the vet.
I hope his limping isn't anything too serious. Hugs to both of you!

Glad he is feeling better.
Not to diminish his symptoms or your worry, but I swear Spunky knows how to create snuffling noises just to get my attention. I hope you can figure out the cause of his limping.

My vet called me last night and told me the results of the Senior blood panel that was done on Honeybun.
He's as healthy as an ox considering all the rest that is going against him!! Thyroid is great, no diabetes, his white count was a little low she said, but other than that, it was wonderful. Now to get a video of him limping if he won't do it at the vet office. Wish I could do that, but not sure if I can get it or not. I think at the vet's office, it was "fight or flight" that got in to him and he just went ZOOM!!! and took off to where ever he could feel safe. He's still limping here at home. Still hiding out. But I manage to get ahold of him where ever he's at and give him scritchies and then get ahold of him to give him his meds and then a big bowl of chicken!! He seems to forgive me after the chicken giving, lol. ;)
If I can get a video, and show it to the vet and get an answer, or if he gets worse with the limping, and I take him back to the vet, I'll let everyone know what the prognosis is. I'm hoping the clavamox kicks in and gets the URI under control. Poor boy sneezes 15 times in a row some times!

I'm so glad to hear that his blood work results are normal.:) Now hopefully clavamox will help him feel better soon.:) When my Sky would make funny breathing noises, I had to video tape these too because he wouldn't do it at the vets. Hopefully you'll be able to get his limping on video and I hope it's nothing serious. He remains in my thoughts and prayers.

My Bun must be feeling so much better. He's back to begging for his chicken 3-4 times a day, and his limping is almost gone. I don't know where it came from, or what caused it, but it's not as pronounced as it was the past few days.
Getting the meds into him has been fun. He's a tricky little cat! He'll sit there and stare at me, and then when I go to grab him, off he runs! Such a brat!!
Thanks to all for the well wishes. I'm hoping this keeps my Honey with me for a good long time. I know he's old, I know he's FIV+, but he's been such a trooper for all of it. He's a tough old man!

I'm very pleased to hear Honeybun is doing well, except for the URI. Those FIV boys can be really tough and bounce back again and again. My Raven is 18 and FIV+ and his recent geriatric blood panel was perfect also.
I had to laugh about Honeybun's response to imminent pilling. It's frustrating when they make it look like it's going to be fairly easy and then throw you off balance.
When Honeybun limps, is it after rest? Challenge did that until he was put on Cosequin. The vet said it's usually arthritis when the limp appears after rest and then becomes far less noticeable after movement. Good idea to take a video.
I'm amazed with all your experience you haven't had to give sub-q's before. Get used to it because it's an absolute life-saver, makes a cat feel much better, and improves appetite. I always tell a vet when I've given sub-q fluids before a visit (for instance when a URI gets worse overnight but not life-threatening) and they've always said that's great.
