If you are on the West Coast of the USA, please CALL THE JAPAN CONSULATE in Los Angeles on FRIDAY & tell them:
DON'T SEAL-OFF THE ANIMALS IN THE FUKUSHIMA EXCLUSION ZONE!
Leave a polite but firm message, asking them to allow responsible registered animal-groups to continue to rescue, decontaminate & remove surviving animals: 213-617-6700
Please don't forget - by Monday new laws may block all access, & surviving animals will be doomed.
Q.: What kind of treatment is the "decontamination process?"
A.: Scan with a Geiger, bathe the animal, blood
test, treat if necessary with iodine to bump the Io-131, check for persistent contamination, scan stools for a few days for radioisotopes.
So far, all the dogs, cats, etc, removed, have been able to return to their families, or can be cared for by volunteers & rescue groups; they are not in iso.
Leaving them there to starve is not IMO any answer at all; of they will NOT remove them, they should start killing them - NOW. it's been a bloody month-plus without regular food & clean water; p*ss*ng away more time is pointless. Fetch them out, or kill them there; NOW. Stop ignoring, overlooking or pretending they aren't there.
Many have had to resort to cannibalism to survive this far. :( There are some atrocious vids on youtube of what these animals have had to cope with in recent weeks.
