Anthony Kiekow
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - On Dec. 30 the Fairborn Animal Shelter will close.

The city’s manager said “budget concerns” are the reason the shelter will be closed.

“We care about our animals, but we just had no choice,” Fairborn City Manager Deborah McDonnell said.

The shelter is home to 20 cats and 6 dogs.

Greene County Animal Control will take care of the 6 dogs.

“We don’t know what will happen to the cats,” McDonnell said.

If you would like to adopt one of the animals left at the Fairborn Animal Shelter call 754-3073.

I've noticed lately that people are freaking out about Fairborn animal shelter closing and that the cats are going to be put to sleep. The news channels are stating this wrong. Yes the shelter is closing but the cats ARE NOT going to be put to sleep. I called the shelter myself. All the dogs AND cats are going to a different shelter. When the news mentioned cats they didn't mention that they are talking about the stray cats in Fairborn. The Fairborn shelter is the only one who picks up stray cats in the area and when they close there will no longer be anyone to pick up the stray cats. So yes you can help this situation by having your cats fixed when they are outside pets. You can also still adopt any dog or cat from the Fairborn Shelter but ALL the animals (cats INcluded) will be moving to the xenia shelter, NOT being put to sleep. Here is there number so you can call and ask for yourself....(937) 754-3073. Thanks and Have a good day.
