Check out this book: The Whole Pet Diet, by Andi Brown. I found it at my library. After reading through it, I bought a copy from Amazon.com

It includes recipes, and explains WHY you are including each ingredient.

I make my own cat food for my gang (one of them has IBD so does NOT react well to commercial cat food). It isn't that difficult or time consuming, but I did quite a bit of research before I started the process. It has now been about 4 years and my guys are all happy, healthy, and not overweight.
