I have to laugh at this story....
Why are people complaining? The ship didn't sink or run aground.
I would have made it an adventure, maybe find a wife, get married by the captain, write messages and put them in bottles-toss them overboard, work on my tan? Drink like a fish?
People have no adventure anymore, whiners.;)
And............had Spam and champagne as your wedding feast..............

Though I do feel for the woman who was diabetic and had not been able to eat enough to take her insulin. That could have been fatal.

:) So aggree.. And you know these people have not even thought about the two adventures into one.. Due to this trip was a adventure & then the next cruise they will get from getting their money back from this one will be there second adventure.. Oh I know everyone will have to have a lawyer so they can all sue the cruise company when the fire was not their fault..

They were on a diet cruise, one of the passengers said: lots of salads, canned crabmeat too. Along with Spam, and (Yuck) Pop Tarts.
Although it is definitely NOT what any of them had planned (including the ship's crew!), at least they aren't in Haiti.

I think Carnival made a mistake introducing those mega-ships. I was with a friend on the Destiny in 1998 and it was just people, people, people. Thank goodness for a cabin with a balcony for a little peace and a break from the crowds.
I wonder how much this is going to end up costing them?

I don't understand why they didn't evacuate people like the diabetic woman and the person with the scooter. Shouldn't the Navy have been able to do so? Not having insulin is definitely life-threatening. I hope she's OK

I have never understood the appeal of a cruise...floating around on a boat eating all day...just don't get it...I want to go somewhere and explore the people and the countryside.

I agree! It would be my worst nightmare to be stuck on ship in the middle of the ocean. I guess I would enjoy a cruise ship if it just stayed docked. :D

Actually, cruises are great for the fact that you only unpack once and you get to see lots of different places. Our first cruise we stopped every day at a different place (St Maarten, St Thomas, Antigua, St Lucia and Barbados). We only had one at sea day. It was great!! That cruise was on Royal Caribbean.
Our second cruise was on Carnival and it wasn't as good for me. There were three at sea days. Those are the worst because EVERYONE is on the boat ALL day.
My friends were supposed to go on this exact boat on Sunday. I heard they get reimbursed for the cruise, any air fare AND get 25% off their next cruise. The guests that had to endure this should get compensated ALOT more than that.

I get really really sea sick so the ocean is off limits for me. I am a land lover mates. Was on a cruise up in Alaska viewing the Fjords it was beautiful & the seas were fairly calm but oh boy was I sick. A kind oriental lady gave me some ginger to chew on & it helped some. I was so happy to get back on dry land again. :)
We have or had a Spam factory up in Austin or Albert Lea, Minnesota & a Spam Museum. Lots of people that visit our museum are heading up to the Spam Museum. Usually it is a compromise between husband & wife. :D

Ships are ran by engines, everything is ran by some sort of mechanical machine.. They do have things break down. Out on the river I have been on a boats that lost its steering, had a generator go out, had a clutch burn up.. Things happen and there is no preventing it...not all at one time thank God! My bet is their main control panel went out, probably what was on fire too..
I would have a big problem having only spam and pop tarts to eat.. EUCK! I'd have been in that galley looking for something else, even if I had to eat it cold! I would have been thrilled with peanutbutter and jelly.. I am like a kid when it comes to that! LOVE it, eat it often! (They'de probably had to make me one before that cruise was over, even it they hadn't had that fire.. LOL!)

JMHO: People keep their mouths shut and then blame someone else when things go wrong. She probably didn't say anything at all on the cruise before or after the fire. If she had said something, esp to medical staff, she would have gotten enough food. I've had students more concerned about privacy than about their health and safety.
