First, I have to tell you.. Everybody there kept telling me I should just take her home and call her MINE! Blaine put her in a cage with 3 other kittens about her age and size to get her use to being with others in case she don't have a home before I go back to work. Blaine has always said she would take her when I have to leave and wanted to see how she do in with a bunch of others. She surprised me a lot, she really didn't mind because she was to busy.... following me with her eyes, screaming for me to pick her up.... for hours! They kept telling me she has bonded tight with you and you just as well take her home and call her YOURS!
She eventually got tired and really surprised me.... here is the proof!
First it was this

Then there was THIS!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/Grammy707/Catzzzzz/Caramellainapile103010.jpg
She got a GOOD nibble on a home today. The lady was looking for one for her daughter and wanted to know where we would be tomorrow so she could bring her daughter to see Caramella.. I gave her my number, asked her where she lived and she also lives in the same town I do, not that far away. So, after church tomorrow, she is suppose to call and we arrange to meet so her daughter can see Caramella.. Blaine gave me all Caramealla's paperwork and adoption form in case this happens.. SO, I may be crying all day tomorrow..
HOWEVER! Blaine cornered me almost as soon as I arrived today. Someone showed up at adoption day with 2, 6 week old kittens that need socializing, and dumped them in her lap and left.... and Blaine asked me if I would bring them home and socialize them. Since it has turned cold here, she has brought all her kittens inside from the outside enclosure and her house if full of kittens and those 4 puppies she agreed to take temporarily that has turned into longer. She is so upset about those puppies, she is NOT a dog person and they are consuming all of her time.
I told her I don't know how long I can keep them because I don't know yet, when I will be able to go back to work...hopefully next trip, a little over 3 weeks... She said just a week would help her and however long I could help with them she would appreciate.. SO! Seen next post!

Caramella planned to get her cage and get a nap soon as we got home but she was dissapointed...
WHAT IS THIS?

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/Grammy707/Catzzzzz/IMG_1574.jpg
Here are the new babies...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/Grammy707/Catzzzzz/IMG_1575.jpg
Those poor babies were so hungry that they ate a big bowl of kitten food non stop. I was planning to take that cage down when I got home today since I don't use it anymore to shut Caramella up in at night. OH well! It's got more babies in it now! Blaine is coming tomorrow to give them their shots and bring me some food for them..
Now for a real heartwarming dog related story. A man and his wife came today looking for a dog to replace the one they lost 8 months ago. The dog just dissapeared and they couldn't find him anywhere and they had searched everywhere. Well guess what they found today! THEIR DOG!! He said the dog loves, loves, loves to ride and he will jump in any car, any truck...anytime. So someone must have left a door open and the dog jumped in.. We all told him to get that dog microchipped so the next time he won't have to pay an adoption fee to get his dog back...
Here is the man and the dog... what a nice reunion that was!

Wow! Carmella doesn't look very happy to have some little kittens using her cage. Hopefully everything will go well tomorrow and the lady and her daughter will end up adopting her even though I still think she belongs with you. If they do adopt her maybe you'll be able to stay in touch since they don't live very far from you. The kittens sure are cute and hopefully they'll do well in your care and will also find wonderful forever homes. Good luck.:)
That's amazing how the man found his dog at the adoption event. Hopefully he'll be able to microchip him or keep an id tag on him so he won't disappear again.:)

This post is just FULL of news!
I agree with Blaine (no surprise, huh?) If Caramella is THAT bonded with you, it seems almost cruel to force her to leave you.
So I am going to start praying that the lady and her daughter want . . . the 2 newbies, ha ha haaaaa.
I am glad that person saved those 2 kittens, even though it means more work for Blaine and you. If thy were that hungry, they needed help! So funny seeing Caramella looking at them in HER cage, ha haaa.
Finally, the man who found his dog . . . after 8 months! WOWZERS!

It is the end of the day and the lady never called, not even to tell me they were not coming. She may call again another day but I will not sit around and wait for that to happen..
;) Do I look sad? Caramella has been especially snuggely today, even curling up in my lap just to sleep... THAT'S a first!!
OH, and she has been playing with the kittens, she can not stay away from them!

I have sighed a huge sigh of relief:D Not to put a crimp in your plan Laura... but I too believe that Caramella has FOUND her forever home and that home is with you:love: The love in her eyes when she looks at you is telling.
It's been so hard not to say too much and I do understand your situation but there just has to be a way she can stay with 'her momma'. The thought of her going to anyone else frightens me because I fear she will always look for you.
Sounds like she is even willing to help you with those kittens:D What a good girl she is:love:

You know, and all of us know, that Caramella belongs with you. Things will work out. The others have adjusted to your work schedule and so will she. Not seeing you for a few weeks once in awhile will be nothing compared to never seeing you again! She loves you.

I agree.:) It also sounds like Samantha is really warming up to her and is willing to be her second mama when you're not around.;) I'm also very relieved that the woman never called.
When I inquired about Alani & Blaze, the woman from the rescue group said that they were still available. I couldn't believe it. She said that several people had been very interested in them but then they'd never call her back to set up a meeting. Well I now know that they were waiting for me so things do happen for a reason.:)

Having 2 kittens in that cage is a mess.... they have dumped over every bowl of water I put in there today, then go lay in the litter box.. They dumped bowl after bowl and even the cat food... SO, I made some changed in the cage, added a shelf above the litter box and tied some bowls in the corners of the shelf.. I glued rop to the bowls and tied the rope to the cage.. NONE has been dumped again..... YET.....
I figured out how to use the cage and a baby gate to shut off the kitchen so I can let them run loose in there in the daytime and not be caged all the time.. This is a trial run of the first time I turned them loose in the kitchen.. Just click on the picture..

Ummm, has anyone else noticed that the caption on the movie says "Caramella and the FOSTER kitties"???? So I am thinking Caramella has found her forever home since she's not listed as a foster!!! ;)
Welcome home Caramella!
The babies are adorable, as is Caramella. Loved hearing them running all over and seeing them chase one another!

Please make room for that Dear Little Awesome Kitten!!!

I got one BIG question! What would I do with her when I go back to work? She is to young and adventurous to leave at home unattended. She has knocked over lamps and half way unplugged things and could get herself in a dangerous situation with nobody here to watch out for her. I am constantly getting her off of the counters and table, anywhere that she could fall from. She does things that scare me when it comes to leaving her here unattened. I never leave her any longer than a hour..
I will not cage her for 28 days so what do I do with her?

Is there a way to make one room into the "cat room"? Easier to kitten-proof just a small area....
My cat room is still in use on a rather frequent basis even though my kids are well beyond the kitten age. It's just a safe place for them....

When mine were babies, I fixed them a box to sleep in and shut them in the bathroom while I was at work. Now, I put them in the kitchen when I have to go somewhere. I put a plastic thing over the refrigetator cord so they can't chew threw it. They have the run of about a 2 room area because the kitchen used to be two rooms.
I guess I'd say kitten proof one or two rooms for her. I've not been gone for long periods though since I have been disabled for 15 years. Give her tons and tons of toys and things to keep her busy.
My brother does the same thing. He has nine cats now. Just found two new widdle ones. He fixes a place for them in his home office until they are old enough to meet the rest of his gang. Hope this helps some.

Laura, maybe by the time you go back to work Caramella will be old enough to not destroy things...assuming she matures as she ages! LOL
Could Rie keep her while you are away?

OMG I'm literally LOL! Tap dancers! Caramella is just so puzzled and funny. Kitten play is so beautiful.
Wish I knew what to say about your leaving so long. I'd be a nervous wreck the whole time but if you can kittenproof a small area until the sitter can visit that might work. When they are young they kind of like small spaces. They grow so fast! She might be "up to speed" by the time you have to go again. Don't know the right answer.

I would also try to kitten proof either a room or a certain area in your home where Caramella would be staying while you were gone. As you know I still have 2 little ones who just turned 6 months old on Sat. I've been letting them have the run of my condo for quite some time now but they aren't allowed in either bedroom. I've also had to hide toilet paper, napkins, kleenex, and I've even had to put the trash can in the second bedroom for now. When I leave for work Storm, Pearl, and Sky will usually stay in my bedroom and Ziggy will stay out in the main area with Alani and Blaze. It's worked out very well so far. I've always kept plastic bags, twist ties, rubber bands etc. hidden away and I just try to act like I'm living with toddlers so I just try to baby proof my home. I'm sure that everything will work out. Good luck.:)
I also say "Aye"! I'd love to see you and Caramella stay together. I'm sure that if she could talk she'd say that she wants to stay too.:)

Jaz, Jax and Caramella are having a blast together. I put the basket of toys in the kitchen with them and they didn't know what to do with them so I started pulling them out of the basket last night and Caramella showed them what to do with them so now they know the joys of toys! Those little buggers have figured out how to get over the gate I have put up to keep them in the kitchen already so I have introduced them to the squirt bottle. I hate that they know how to get over that gate because that means they'll have to be caged when I am not here.
Caramella got into a wrestling match with Jazz last night and they rolled and tumbled and played under the watchful eyes of Jax, ready to come to the rescue of his sister if Caramella hurt her, she is really enjoying having play mates in the house.
Last night they were playing and having a good ole time so I got the camera and started videoing them, the battery light was flashing to warn me the battery was fixing to die but I kept on and could not believe what I got on video... It died right where the video stopped but at least I got it! This needs no explanation so just watch!

Caramella has never figured out how to get up on those perches where Boo is, That was Jaz's first try in less than 2 days here and he figured it out right away so I see they are going to be teaching each other things. They saw Caramealla getting over the gate so that is how they learned to do that..

Took off the wood door and put up a screen door. They do fine, but they are older. If something like that would work for you, maybe keep the big kitties loose in the house and the kittens behind the screen door?

I don't have a extra room or any extra room in my house as it is... THAT is the problem. I never planned on having even 1 cat when I bought this house and didn't want any extra room because in my other house I had a "extra" room and everybody wanted to move in with me because I had the room... If only I had known then what I know now, things WOULD be different..A LOT different!!

Are the three of them close in age?
Didn't mean to ignore you question cassiesmom
They were about 6 weeks old, Caramella was about 12 weeks. I weighed them the other night and Jaz & Jax were 2 pounds, Caramella was 3 pounds. They look fat, she looks so skinny compared to them and all the other kittens at adoption day that are her age but the vet told me a pound a month is right for kittens so Caramella is right on her her age.. She is going to be a TALL and LONG girl.. right now she is all legs!
Jax has been at the vets since Saturday. He was sneezing like crazy so I sent Blaine text and told her I was worried about him so she had me take him to their vets and drop him off. He is being treated for a URI, injections of antibiotics every day but he is coming home tomorrow with meds to take.
Without Jax around, Jaz has warmed right up to me where as she always ran to him for protection whenever I tried to touch her. Her and Caramella have become friends and buddies and Caramella IS teaching her stuff. She hears Caramella crying to be picked up and now she is doing it although she isn't really THAT sure she wants to be picked up..LOL! (OH, Caramella is doing that chirping purr cry thing when she don't know where Jaz is and wants her..) She is teaching her to be a lap baby too..
After seeing Jax run up the perch like on that video, Caramella FINALLY learned that is how you get up there to the perch to get a nap!! I find her up there sleeping a lot now days.. He taught her that in less that 24 hours of being here, something she had been trying to figure out how to do for weeks!
