Poor old Taboo. She somehow scratched or poked the cornea of her left eye yesterday.
The vet has stitched her thrid eyelid over the eye (from bottom to top) to allow the cornea to heal underneath. It needs to remain this way for 2 week, and eye meds administered 3 times a day. And this may or may not help save the eye.
So she's a cone head for 2 weeks.

I pray this will heal, I'd hate her to go through eye removal surgery at her age.

Oh Taboo! Prayers this all heals up well, and quickly too!
Some years back, RB Vita and Sparkle were playing, and Vita scratched Sparkle's eye. Of course this was late on a Saturday, so an ER Vet visit to boot.
Sparkle had 3 types of drops to administer daily, and thank goodness it all healed up. I did the follow up with our regular vet.
One of the drops was for pain relief, they said this type of injury is extremely painful.
One was to keep the pupil dilated, so the third drops could get in more easily to help with healing.

YUP, 2 drops and a pill form of pain reliever. And I know it must hurt because Taboo would LOVE when I would rub her eyes to clean them out, but not now!! OUCHIE!!!

This is going to be a LONG 2 week! The cone she was sent home with is too heavy for her to lift. She's old and weak, and drops her head and it gets stuck on the carpet. So I gave her a smaller cone that I had at home. She can walk with it, but she tries to run and she tries to go into the carrier or under the lamp table and she bumps the cone, it scares her and she runs away. Then she starts all over. I think she will be spending the majority of the time in her cage for her own safety. Poor kid.

Poor little Taboo. I know it's awful having to wear that cone, but once your eye heals up you'll feel much better. Be well, be calm, be patient, little one, and you'll be good as new soon.

What about the fabric-umbrella type cone? That would be way lighter for her.
Poor wittle girl!

New pictures os Taboo sleeping.
Her problem now is that she is not eating. :( And she has no weight to spare. She had actually lost some weight so she is now just under 6 pounds.

Taboo, sweetheart, PLEASE eat!
Does she maybe need a small amount of appetite stimulant to kick-start her?
Many prayers going out to you and sweet Taboo.:love:

Taboo is doing OK. Not great, but not bad. Sometimes her appetite is good, other days it is not. She has until Monday for the eye meds and then she goes back to the vet. I am sure she'll have lost weight.
So we are just waiting out the days hoping for the best outcome.
And just for the record, she has not been wearing her cone head. She was just so miserable with it on. And if these turn out to be her last weeks (at her age) I won't stand by and watch her be uncomfortable. She leaves the eye alone, she just wanted to be able to sleep in her favorite spots without distraction from the cone.

I am just now seeing this Jen! Poor Taboo, she has already been through so much, she didn't need this. My heart is breaking for her. Fingers, paws and toes crossed that the eye drops saved her eye and it don't need to be removed. She deserve to live out her final days happy and loved, pain free and I sure hope she has a lot of those days ahead for her.

Taboo update.
It has been 2 weeks. Taboo got the stitch out. And her cornea IS healing.
To me, her eye looks really funny, sort of cloudy all over, but the vet is only conceerned with the cornea injury. And it is healing well. (she probably had lost most of the vision in that eye already, due to age)
So, 2 more weeks of the eye creams and back she'll go to be looked at again.
Not bad for a grouchy old lady. :)

Great news on the "grouchy" Taboo. ;) Has she purred at all yet, or mellowed?
She is a sweetheart who deserves the best - she has every reason to be grouchy after a long and hard life.

Thanks all.
She did not eat well tonight, but she had quite a day. She was REALLY upset about getting that stitch out. She growled and grumped more than her usual.
She is not much of a purrer, but every once in a while.
She is all "bark" with very little bite. I mean, with all she has been through, she could easily decide to just attack teeth first, but she never does.
She lost only 3 ounces, which is good. Now hopefully she'll hold the wieght or maybe gain some back.

Taboo's eye is healing. Vet says the corneas heal SLOWLY.
It has been almost 1 month, and she will continue to get the eye meds for at least 3 more weeks.
But she gained some of the weight back that she had lost, and is doing as well as any 17+ year old cat I know. ;)
