The Princess got out yesterday (thanks to my nice but clueless roommate) and since she came back Franklin acts like she's a total stranger. And Chelsea is his mom!
Anyway, he's way bigger and stronger than she is so she is terrified of him, hiding under the bed, always in that defensive curled up position. I separated them for awhile yesterday evening. They seemed to calm down so I opened up all the doors - no fighting during the night but also no one slept with me, which is not the way things normally go. Now this morning Franklin is acting aggressive again so again they are separated.
What on earth is causing this? The last time I saw Franklin act like this was when Winston can home from his surgery. In that situation Franklin wasn't aggressive but he did act like Winston was a threat. I know that sometimes happens when one of the kitties come back smelling strange from being at the vet but I can't imagine why he's acting that way now. She has escaped before (yes, the roommate) and he's never acted this way.
I saw the other thread about Clomicalm and now I'm wondering if that's the direction I need to go. But before I go that route, any suggestions other than Feliway? I had a can of that stuff but now I have no idea where it is.... :(

I'm sorry to hear this.:( I'd try Feliway first before trying to medicate them. You can also buy the plugins which I think might be better. If your cats wear collars, you could also try to spray the collars with some Feliway spray a few squirts 2 times a day or so. Hopefully Franklin will start calming down soon. Good luck.:)

I've also heard of people having to bathe their cats to get rid of whatever smell the other cat is picking up. Good luck.

Whew!
I made Franklin sleep in the kitty room alone last night just so Chelsea could have some peace and he didn't like it one bit! Meowed and meowed most of the night, poor baby. However, I found my Feliway so I sprayed the area like crazy plus I did the "rub the towel on one then rub the same towel on the other" trick several times. This morning he was so glad to be let out! And no issues with Chelsea so it looks like were back to normal.
Thanks for all the input!

This is great news.:) I guess the smell that Franklin was smelling is finally gone. Let's hope that he continues to remain calm now.:)
