Last Friday was a beautiful sunny day in Indy. 4 co-workers from a local
office decided to go out for Chinese food at lunchtime. They rode their motor
cycles & were stopped at a red light, when a police car plowed into the back
of them going at high speed. Toll, 1 killed instantly, 1 still in critical condition,
and 1 still in the hospital recovering from injuries. Only 1 driver was uninjured
in the accident. Everyone thought, a tragic accident until it was discovered
the cop was drunk. Blood test confirmed he was over twice the legal limit.:(:(
Boy, you just never know what can happen on any given day, do you?

p.s. This was a K9 Officer with his dog in the car.

The community is up in arms about this, and I can certainly see why.

The cop will get suspended with pay until they can investigate the accident.

Then they will find the victims to blame because they were riding as a motorcycle gang.

Moron.

The cop has been changed with 7 felony counts in the accident. From the
very beginning, the police gave every break to the officer & tried to blame
the victims. It was clear from the diagrams of the scene, that he had a clear
left lane to proceed thru the intersection, but didn't take it. He was driving
much to fast & plowed right into the stopped traffic.:(

This is the same officer who two weeks ago recieved a medal of valor for
his service in stopping an armed robbery suspect.

My mouth and eyes couldn't get any wider!:eek::eek:
I can't even believe this! Police officers are supposed to be protecting us and then something like this happens. Makes you not have confidence in law enforcement anymore. I know there are EXCELLENT police out there, please don't get me wrong. I know several cops and they are great!

I am still just completely in shock about this.:eek:

Of course they did.

THat is the Union and the city trying to fend off any lawsuits.

This AH was driving around, on the company's dime, all jacked up.

Plus?

HE HAS AN ANIMAL THAT IS TRAINED TO BITE YOUR ARM, UNDER HIS CONTROL.

Sorry to the people with family in law enforcement......

K9 dog handlers have a small percentage of real morons w/in their ranks.
Had he left the dog in a hot car to go into a strip bar?

A write up in the file and that would be it.

He could stop a robbery, but could not stop a car.

Moron

I concur.

Can somebody explain to me how "suspended with pay" is not called a "vacation"? That is something I could never understand.

No matter what the severity of the crime, many people are "suspended with pay". How is this a punishment?

D&D - I suspect it stems from 'innocent until proven guilty in a court of law' type of thing.

In Alberta, there is a cop who has recently resigned after being found guilty of internet luring; last year, another cop was found guilty of possessing child porn on his computer.

Sadly, the police forces consist of human beings, and some of them are just plain idiotic. DWI!!!

Yes, something like that. He has now been charged & suspended without
pay.

The women injured now has a tort claim against the City & IMPD. She has
about every bone in her body broken.:( Years of therapy ahead. This is
probably the first of many claims to be filed in this case. I really don't think
this cop got away with fooling his fellow officers, and somebody had to
know he had a drinking problem, but didn't speak up before this happened.

Take a look at what was left of one motorcycle after the crash.

I can't believe this. The court has thrown out 5 of the 7 felony
charges against the police officer. All the "drunk driving" charges were
dropped because the blood draw was improperly administered.

His alcohol level was .19, over twice the legal limit, but that fact can't
be used in court because the wrong people administered the blood test. People are really p'ed off, big time.

I saw this story when it happened, didn't realize Liz had posted it.

Had an inkling it was DUI when it broke, it just didn't feel right. Improper handling of the DUI investigation? I'm shocked, sur, SHOCKED.

Many people were saying the Officer would get away with this because
well, he's a cop, but more believed the cops would do the right thing. They
bungled the investigation & testing & a smart defense lawyer caught the
mistakes before trial. The IMPD had a problem with public image before this
happened, and now it's so much worse.:( The Indy Mayor has scheduled
another public meeting tonight to discuss these latest events.
