Dinty moore beef stew out of a pouch warmed by the exhaust of an M-1 tank?

DONE!

Now, if you don't mind, I'll just help myself to the weisen in the cold spot in the tank retriever.

One does not camp in Florida in the summer or one either becomes moldy and gets a skin infection or gets lifted up and carried away by EXTREMELY LARGE bugs while one is sleeping.

How about a couple-a hot dogs broiled in the oven, some lemonade and potato chips and I'll sit on the floor watching TV while I eat. That's roughing it enough in the FL summer for me !! :D

We rough it in a pop up. :D

Dinty Moore beef stew!! OMG!! I haven't seen that since I was a kid-my mother used to heat that up on the boat! Tells you something that I haven't bought it as an adult...

OK, just for the nostagic factor I'll have some stew. But can I have some nice fresh Sesame Semolina bread and butter with it? I have some leftover I can share!! :)

It was good to be a tanker. (In winter at least) :) Nothing like a 1500 HP heater/clothes dryer/food heater upper, etc.

Also, the smoke grenade launchers are just about the perfect size for a 12oz can. ;) Just sayin.

---

For old times sake... MRE Spaghetti with a packet of MRE cheese, please?

And a Kreutzberger Pils, of course.

DONE!

But the Ham slice is MINE! Just throw the "bean component" packets in the trash. There's a reason they're not safe for preflight use.

Tell you what. I'll trade you the cheese for crackers and jelly.

Do you think we can all fit in that tent? I hope you left orc back at the bar!!!

Deal. What do we do with track pad though? (aka "Outmeal Cookie Bar")

I always wondered why there was no cheese in the Ham Slice MRE. I mean, what is a fine piece of ham without a fine piece of cheese? :p

I'll give you all my coco powder and gum if you can eat a whole pack of crackers withOUT having anything to drink. LOL

Puck, I broke a tooth on an "oatmeal cookie bar", but I'm not even going to TRY to eat a pack of MRE crackers without water. I've seen ugly, ugly results from the attempts.

Warning:

The cracker are dryer than the Sahara Desert. Tasty, but dry. Dry, dry, dry. Did I mention dry?

REALLY good with the cheese spread or the jelly. Do not attempt with the peanut butter without a full canteen of water handy.

The bread, however, is pure evil.

Looks kinda like bread.

Good luck spreading anything on it.

Tastes like you're shewing a salt lick.

The Oatmeal cookie bars? I wasn't kidding earlier when I told Puck I broke a tooth on one.

I liked guys like LH who dug the crackers. Good trade bait for the pound cake. Or Jalapeno Cheese.

Tried to keep the peanut butter to make pudding with creamers and cocoa powder.

LOL @ the coffee. What combat arms soldier has time to actually boil water to make it? In a pinch, just eat it dry with water. When you have been awake for 36 hours and it will be 12 more until the passage of lines... You do what ya gotta do.

MRE's now and MUCH better then when I was a baby soldier in the early 90's. LH, did you know ANYbody who actually ate the omelete with ham? <barf>

Lady's Human
07-22-2010, 07:13 PM
Omelet with ham?

Nope. That meal had one destination......the bottom of a cathole.

Coffee? Heat tab, a canteen cup and about 3 minutes.

HOWEVER.....

On guard duty at 0 dark thirty just a pinch between your cheek and gum. a tablespoon of coffee powder was good for another hour or two without falling asleep on the '60.

Wen I was a child I loved camping but now I totally agree with you.
I work hard and when I have down time I want to be pampered and sleeping in a tent with bugs and no longer my cup of tea.

What's the little green pill?

I don't want that stuff - can I have a burger and a coke (diet)?

And I'll stay in the cabin if it has air conditioning!!

Lady's Human
07-23-2010, 07:37 AM
The little green pill is actually a packet of chiclets.

I swear the sole purpose of the chiclets is so you don't have a track full of troopies with dragon breath having a meeting.

My experience tells me that clean breath cannot cover up a week or more of BO.

But I reckon that is what gag bags are REALLY for. LOL

My dad (RIP) was in the Army in the late '50s and he said the powdered eggs were the grossest thing ever on base. I wonder what he would have thought of MREs? Didn't those used to be called "Meals Rejected by Ethiopians?";)

As to the camping, fugeddaboutit! I used to camp when I was involved with SCA and didn't really like it.

RICHARD
07-23-2010, 08:36 AM
There was a surplus store in the neighborhood and I would always go in to buy camping stuff when I needed it.

I came across a can of Date Nut Bread from a package of old C-rations, I picked one up as a joke and brought it home. (The can had a date on it-not an "Eat By" date....A date on when it was made......by the time I saw it? It was a FEW years old....)

After a few days of laughing and joking about it, I put the can opener to it and shared it out.

It was still good, very sweet and greasy. You could have put those out at some of the meeting I used to go to and that would have perked everyone up and kept them going for a few hours!:D

------------

One spectaular thing about the new stuff is the stories of creativity - making 'gourmet' dishes out of different components - that some people talk about.

:D;)

Smores for everyone!

DONE!

------------

I bought a can of pork and beans a while back....

I opened it up and saw a white glob of something fall out of the can...

I wrinkled my nose and grabbed a fork to dig it out.

Much to my surprise?

It was a piece of pork.....

I hadn't seen PORK in P&B's in long, long time.
