From the Houston Chronicle:

The following recall has been announced:

_ Merrick Pet Care Inc. is recalling one lot of 10-ounce bags of Beef Filet Squares for Dogs because the dog treats could be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals, and people who handle contaminated pet food can become infected with salmonella, especially if they haven't thoroughly washed their hands. No illnesses have been reported in people or pets, according to the Amarillo, Texas, company. The recalled Beef Filet Squares were shipped to distributors and retailers throughout the U.S. The treats were sold in 10-ounce plastic bags marked with the best by date of March 24, 2012, and the lot number 10084TL7. For more information, consumers can call 800-664-7387.

I don't feed my dogs these, but when are all these recalls going to end? :(

I could not find it anywhere on the Merrick site, sigh.

It IS on the FDA site, from January.

Thanks Crystal, none of us had caught this!

Weird that the Houston Chronicle JUST reported it.

I don't feed my little ones these treats either, but thought someone might. Merrick is such a high quality food, this recall surprises me a little.

Every company goofs from time to time. When I worked for Innova (Before they sold out) they once had to recall a batch of 6lb bags because it got wet during shipping and smelled strange, and it wasn't caught until a few stores had put it out on their shelves.

So, pet food recalls will never end, simply because the folks who produce/transport it are human and sometimes make mistakes.

As Snakemama said ,the recalls are just proof that we're all human.

However, they're also proof that the system, in regards to food safety, is working.
