I'm really scared right now. He could hardly breath. We're at the vet now. He's got to spend the night in an oxygen chamber before he can be evaluated tomorrow. There is an operation for it but its not without risks. Such as putting him under for it and then possible pneumonia afterwards. The surgeon will do xrays and such tomorrow afternoon. I'm a wreck. I wasn't expecting things this soon. If it is his time, I want him to go in his sleep. I don't want to have to make that decision again :(

Thanks so much. It means a lot. I called on the way to work to see how he was doing. He's sleeping and breathing a little easier. I had told Nancy the pet psychic that he was very sick and she wanted a pic. She got it and said he was feeling so much joy. He was saying ihe knows I love him. I don't have to keep telling him. I do that all the time. She said he is very strong mentally and he was really clear to read. She said since he had been sedated, it was hard to read his body. She also said he was 110% sure I loved him. Before he always wondered just a tiny bit, like 1%. She said he's at peace and very happy. She told me that's a gift. Most people contact her wondering if their dog loved them and was happy. She told her friend that she was feeling so happy from reading him. He's sending out such joy. Before I left him this afternoon, I opened up the door to his oxygen kennel and petted him. He perked up and looked so happy. Whatever happens at least I know he's happy and at peace.

Much thanks to you all. Last night was a hard one. I had to work. I just talked to the vet. He's doing much better. He's been off oxygen since 4 and no panting. But he hasn't been moving, either. Surgeon comes in sometime in the afternoon and he'll decide when or if the surgery is needed. I know it is. He's been panting a lot the last few days. Thanks to everyone. I know I don't get here a lot but its so good to come here. The house is so quiet today. I've got one of his favorite stuffies with me on the bed.

Thanks again :) I talked to the surgeon. He says sometimes they never find what causes this. I had forgotten about Dasher starting to stumble the last few days until he asked me if Dasher had been falling or having trouble walking. His right back leg gives out just a little every once in a while. Its possible this is a neurological problem and that could get worse. Or maybe enough oxygen wasn't getting to his brain? Anyway, tomorrow morning I sign papers for his operation. He'll have to stay there at least one night, maybe two. I have to work tomorrow night but I'm off next two days. Taking tonight off. I'm going to go see him in just a bit and I'll give him all the love he's gotten here  I'm going to go get our pics after the vet. I'm so glad I did that. The main thing is him waking up from being put under. Its rough on older dogs and he's almost 12. Life is full of chances. I took a chance adopting him. Now one more. He's worth it.

Oh God, I feel terrible for not seeing this sooner, Val. But at least I got to the good news! I'm not Nancy, but I could have told you how much this handsome, sweet, precious boy loves you! Dasher is so special, and a real trooper. He's been through the wringer and bounced back before. Please give a gazillion kisses on Dasher's sweet face for me, and lots of hugs too! I'll be thinking about both of you.

Hey guys. My apologies for not checking in sooner. I've just been enjoying having Dasher home and have been babying him a lot. When I picked him up, the vet told me he was very happy about this operation. He said he thought it was the best one he'd ever done. And that he'd never heard a dog breathe so quietly after the operation :D Dasher has been given yet another chance at life. I think he's part cat. He seems really content and happy now. He hardly ever pants. He's even been leading me down the driveway and out in the street for walks. When he's better, I'm going to start taking him on short walks. Day before yesterday, we just laid in the grass, enjoying the sun and breeze. Was so peaceful. I took Dasher by today so they could see how well he was doing and to bring them a thank you card I made with his stamp. Next Tuesday he gets his stitches removed and can play again. Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes. Even though its been 3 1/2 years since I adopted Dasher, I feel its too soon for him to go. He deserves many more years of happiness. I'll do my best to make that happen.
The first pic is the night I brought him home. The second one is from today.

K9karen: You are right. I gave him June 7th as his bday. So, I'll get a good pic of him.
Karen: Thanks :) I was in a rush that day and didn't realise it
Luvofallhorses: I'm so very happy. And I think he's a lot happier, too. He's loving having canned food all the time. He does seem more content. Today I take him to get the staples removed from his neck. I've been calling him Frankenstein. I'm going to start taking him on short walks. He's been leading me up the street when I take him out to potty. Before operation, he never wanted to go walking and no wonder. With such a hard time breathing, I wouldn't either. Thanks again to everyone. I'm so happy and relieved. I treat him even better than before :) He's such a good dog.

One thing about this makes me sad. We had repair guys at the house today and mom told me Dasher had tried to bark. She just heard a few soft noises :( Vet said his bark would change but I didn't know he couldn't do it at all. Maybe after his throat has healed more it will be louder. Am I silly to feel this way? I don't think it bothers him.

Just a short note to say Dasher has pneumonia :( Took him to vet on Saturday. He'd been coughing for almost a day. It isn't too bad but have meds to try and get rid of that cough. He's got 14 days of antibiotics. I'll be glad when he feels like playing again. He still does his after food celebration. Duke had his noserubbers. Dasher has bodyrubbers. I'll have to put up a video of it. In the back of my mind, I'm worried but trying not to.
