WINDSOR, Ont. — Windsor's humane society is on the hunt for whoever sexually abused a dog so severely that rescuers had to euthanize it.
City of Windsor workers called the humane society after finding the stray dog laying in the back of a schoolyard.
An agent with the Ontario Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals arrived to find a black and white Lab mix with "extremely serious" injuries to its genitals.
The dog, about one to three years old, was laying in the grass and couldn't stand up.
The shelter veterinarian said the injuries were inflicted more than 24 hours earlier.
The shelter euthanized the dog to put it out of its misery.
The humane society said the crime is especially concerning because animal abusers rarely stop with their first heinous act, and often move on to more serious crimes against people

I can't even imagine what that poor dog went through. I feel like crying but yet I'm angry. This is only the beginning for whomever did this. It'll get worse and progress to humans. Dear God.

Oh, that makes me even more ill. That poor doggie. At least it's safe at the Rainbow Bridge now.
More sick-making details, from the web site of the Windsor CBC-TV station: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/windsor/story/2010/05/11/wdr-abused-dog-100511.h
I think I'm going to send that to the Detroit stations.. after all, Windsor's just across the river, so it's local news!
This happened about 50 miles away from me.
These events should be publicized ALL OVER, in all their awfulness! Maybe that will finally begin the push to get laws enacted for punishments fitting to the crimes.
Why do so many people SUCK????? If *I* were in charge, I'd have them all euthanized immediately!.. or rather, let's just say "executed," as "euthanasia" literally means "good death," and I don't think these monsters deserves any kinder treatment than they gave their victims.

I just sent this off to Channels 4 and 7 in Detroit:
=====>
PLEASE cover this story, from today in Windsor:
Sexually abused dog found in schoolyard
The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society and Windsor Police are asking for help finding whoever it was that severely sexually abused a dog. (See http://www.cbc.ca/canada/windsor/story/2010/05/11/wdr-abused-dog-100511.html)
Windsor is just across the river, so it's local news.. closer than Ann Arbor, where I live and where you include news from. And this is too awful not to let everyone on both sides of the river know.
======
I think I'll see if the newspapers (Detroit News and Detroit Free Press) need to be notified too..

The Windsor Star of course has it; in fact, it's the first item on their web site http://www.windsorstar.com/ .. at least right now.
Now I think I'm going to have to e-mail all my local-area animal people and animal-activist people in general..
BUTTTT..... Sydney is sitting here staring at me, blazing into my mind the message FEED US, ALREADY!!!!!! ..so I better take a little break before I do that!

I've lit a candle for you dear doggie. I never knew you and I'm sorry you had such a horrible, horrible experience, but I love you and you're absolutely safe now. No one will ever harm you again so rest easy. I'm crying for you now sweetie, you are missed.
The PT network is doing all it can to help bring the horrible person(s) that hurt you to justice. The Power of PT is very strong so fear not, he (they) will be caught.
Thank you all for thinking of this dogger and for doing what you can to spread the word.

I heard on the news this morning about a dog in Chicago that was held up by its collar until it suffocated, and another that was shot by a neighbor for being allowed by its owner to walk on the neighbor's lawn. Animal cruelty- so sad.

I would sign but I am assuming you have to be Canadian?
Well, the page to sign it says "Eligible signatories: Windsor Residents," but you can view the signatures they've gotten so far. The bulk of them are from Windsor, many from other Ontario addresses and then other Canadian addresses.. but I've also seen one from Kansas City (doesn't say whether MO or KS, or maybe there's one in Canada?), one from Santa Cruz (with a California zip code), one from Paris (I'm guessing France, from the rest of the address).. several from London but I'm assuming the one in Ontario, not the Big Smoke.
So I guess anyone can sign it, but I don't know if the out-of-Windsor or out-of-Canada addresses will have any clout with the Parliament. Still, it might make some impression if they also get addresses from all over the world, to see how far this story has gotten out and how much outrage it has provoked.

Oh, I'm not reading any details. No way.
First a dog, next a child or a baby.
Freaks like this do not deserve "rehabilitation" - what a joke. They do not deserve life in prison. They deserve a death sentence. Nothing else is going to work to save innocent lives.

The dog's owner has been charged:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/windsor/story/2010/05/14/wdr-dog-abuse-court-100514.html
Here are the possible punishments the abuser might receive:
"Abeywickrema [owner] faces what is known as a 'dual procedure offense' in Canada. Depending on how he is charged, if found guilty he could receive up to five years in a penitentiary or 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine."

He's 51 years old??? And on parole for "murder". And someone gave him the dog a few months ago. Oh my God!! Put him back in jail and lets see how long he lasts in there I say. Perhaps the other inmates will see this as no better than child abuse and give him a taste of his own medicine. I could just SCREAM!!!

I finally brought myself to read the article and looked at the dog picture to see what the uproar was all about. To say the least, I'm sorry that I did, this will give me nightmares for weeks. What hurts the most is the guy is getting off with a lousy slap on the wrist. I sit here and stare at my dog and wonder how anyone in this world can be so depraved to do this to any animal but especially his own dog.
I do hope he goes to prison and that the inmates treat him like they would a child abuser, he deserves no less than that - hope this guy rots in hell.

I for one am quite sick of seeing "teenagers" being blamed for every horrendous thing that goes wrong in this world, because it couldn't possibly be an adult, I know. In this case it was, so we can all stop blaming it on my age group now. Thank you. :D:rolleyes:
I couldn't even read the second story, I just don't understand why someone would hurt an innocent animal for no reason? I don't get the mental stability of these people nor will I ever. May the poor puppy, RIP :(

I meant no disrespect to teenagers, in fact it was my 23 year old daughter who thought it might have been because the poor angel was left on school property. It was just a thought, a guess not an accucation of any kind.

Here are some pictures from the march in Windsor yesterday: http://www.windsorstar.com/news/Gallery+Rally+against+animal+abuse/3033441/story.html
I considered going, but I had several bags of dirty cat-laundry to do for the shelter.
From the Windsor Star (http://www.windsorstar.com/news/Windsor+animal+lovers+rally+against+abuse/3033429/story.html#ixzz0o7zhtav8):
"Hopefully this is the start of many little rallies, not just in Windsor but all across Ontario," said Tammy Deslauriers, the protest organizer. A Facebook group she started, "Windsor dog abuser sought," had over 6,500 members as of Saturday afternoon.
Here's the Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=116623478375208&ref=ts
I'm not on Facebook, and I refuse to join (I already blow away way too much time online without Facebook, thank you), but those of you who are members can check it out.
I'd like to keep up on this story, to find out when the slimeball is going to court and what sentence he receives. Maybe I can go watch that.. (I could hiss loudly if he gets probation and/or a mild slap on the wrist).
Here's a politician I would vote for! (assuming I was Canadian and lived in the Windsor-Tecumseh area) -
"Windsor-Tecumseh MP Joe Comartin called on the Harper government to introduce a bill toughening animal cruelty laws. His own private member's bill, he said, will likely never make it through Parliament. The bill would set a ten-year maximum sentence for abusers and re-define animals as sentient beings."

I rather agree with what one of the marchers at Saturday's rally said: "I honestly believe an eye for an eye." I'd like to see that dirtbag sentenced to have done to him what he did to his dog!
Around 350-400 people attended.. and the organizers plan future events. There will be another rally on Wednesday morning outside the courthouse when Abeywickrema has his bail hearing.
And in Toronto Friday: An additional protest is planned for Friday at 2 p.m. outside Queen's Park.

Marigold and others,
Any of you who do Facebook can check out the group there that I mentioned earlier (see msg #40). That was started by the woman who has been organizing these rallies and I think is the primary source of info.
I just e-mailed the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, which was involved in the attempt to rescue and save the dog, asking them what you ask and also: What can I do, being over here but not all that far away, and how can I keep up with it when it's no longer on the TV or newspaper web sites?
I told them about this forum and thread, full of many others (including several Canadians) who would also like to help.
I will let you all know any replies I get.
Here is the Humane Society's web site: http://windsorhumane.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=10
I think the OSPCA is also involved in this, but if so, I hope it's a different branch from the one in Newmarket!
