hello all!
i have a beautiful and sweet labrador dog
his name is lennon.
as many of u know thses dogs love to eat and eat
and eat....
he is now 9 years old and lately he became
very annoying to people who eat...
he never does it to me cause he knows better.. lol
but he really bugs my brother and mom by shuving their hands and even barking sometimes...
even when i go for a walk with him, and he sees
people eating he wont let them be...
and he also wakes me up in the morning with his barks
so ill feed him...
i give him doggie treats and he eats well
he weight is just fine
he wasnt so aggressive about food before.. just lately...
and he also started to eat other dogs... well... u know... "outgoings" lol
thx
Michal.

Perhaps you need to keep him out of the room whenever you are eating. Also, your mother and brother HAVE to ignore him when he does stuff like that so it doesn't reinforce that behavior!

Sounds like you should check with your vet if it is something new to his habits of eating. Could be the dog food he is eating is not sufficient to his needs, could be too much protein in his diet and needs to be placed on special formula for that. check into possibly better rated food such as IMS. Food in the grocer stores have a lot of insuffient ingredients.

he eats nutra nuggets senior light
i know better then to give him "junk food for dogs" lol
and he has been eating it for a while
i tried to change it but he has a very sensitive stomeck...
the problem is, that where i live (israel) the ims food is
very expensive... costs 50 dollars for 15kg
i cant affored it really...
but thx :)
A very warm welcome to Pet Talk Doggielovermip.
I agree wth riesfamily, about having Lennon checked
out by the vet to rule out anything medical.
My 9 yr. old female Akita used to have no appitite at all.
But she was border line Hyper Thyroid (think that
is the right one)
and was put on a very small dose of Thyroid medicine.
She has been eating like a pig ever since.
IF it is not a medical problem and it is behavoir, than
I would make Lennon wait in another room or
away from the table where the family is eating.
Everyone must help with this, and under no circumstances
must Lennon win by a family member giving in to him.
So if Lennon begs from your mom or brother,
They need to tell him no and place him
away from the table and ignor him.
(This is done each time he begs)
If Lennon know's not to beg from you he
can also learn not to beg from the rest of your
family. (NO TABLE SCRAPS and everone must be
consistant with his training)
Basic obedience comes in real handy.
Sometimes Rocky will wakes me up in the mornings when he
wants to be fed. If I want to sleep in a bit more,
I tell him to "go to bed" and than I ignore him and
he goes to bed. :)
Don't be to harsh on poor lennon he is a senior citizen now. lol

Not sure if anyone said this yet but, when ppl are eatting, get him to lay down and stay, and when their done, say "OK!!" or whatever you say, and give him a treat, so he'll learn he doesn't need to beg and annoy for food :]
