Some of you might remember my friend Joe who died of cancer last fall?

Yesterday we had a small memorial service at the church. Greg is cool - you don't have to be an Anglican or even go to his church. About 6 of us, we just gathered chairs around, had a small potluck after at the church.

Then it was about an hour's drive in three pickups as far north up the Ghost River as we could get to scatter Joe's ashes in the river. This for a man who never took a bath - we could imagine him not being pleased! lol

My best friend Irene and another woman named Karen were those closest to Joe. Irene does not especially like Karen, but we all got along fine cause we were there for Joe.

Irene said to Karen that they could share the scattering of the ashes and that she could go first.

River was going downstream...wind was upstream. Karen started scattering and a fair bit blew onto the snow, our clothes...lol

Irene said to Karen, "You need to get lower on the water."

So Karen went about 10 feet downstream and did the same thing again! LOL

I had Joe on my pants...which isn't a great way to say it!

A tad of very fine grit in my teeth on the way home.

It was memorable........;):D

Looks like Joe wanted to stick around. (Sorry) ;)

This is sounding more and more like Donnies funeral in "The Big Lebowski" :D

Oh, I think that's rather a sweet story! Joe clearly has some very good friends, and as Mary said, he wanted to stick around with them a bit longer.

Well, Joe would go months without a bath...so we figure he'll haunt us just for putting him in cold water!:D

Karen said, "Joe didn't like cold water."
Irene replied, "Joe didn't like WATER." ;)

I had a tiniest amount of fine grit in my teeth - wish I'd had a coffee to have a real cup of Joe!:D

Catty1,

When I got MooShoo's ashes back, I took about a cup or so of them to the park in the back, near the bench we shared ice cream on. I forgot about the wind check. I threw them up in the air and they came back in my face and on my jacket, as if MooShoo was saying, "Back at ya, Moms!!!" I still get teary eyed when I think about it.

Love the dark humor. I'm sure Joe would've loved it too!!;)
