Our Butter is missing

We haven't seen Butter since around 10 pm Monday night. He asked to go out and I let him go.
We are going through all the right efforts to find him and have solicited the help of our neighbors and friends, but if you would, please say a prayer for his safety and that if something has happened to him, he didn't suffer in pain.
Those of you who have been here as long as I have been know the stories of Butter and our mutual understanding that he simply would not be an indoor only cat. He was a stray, semi-feral boy who welcomed the chance to live in our home, but it has always been on his terms. He is probably pushing 15 years in age now, but other than some skin issues, has been in perfect health and has actually been a rather nice boy in his later years. I love him so much and I know many of you have come to love him, too, through the years.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. If anything changes, I will be sure to post here. And for those of you who have been posting on Facebook, thank you so much for your support.

No sign of Butter yet, but thank you all for your prayers for his safe return. I keep hearing stories of these miracle cats who show back up after being gone a long time. It is just so unlike Butter to leave in the first place, let alone stay away. He is not scared of anything, so I wouldn't think that he is hiding or frightened. I just don't know.
Zoe, to answer your question, we have put up signs everywhere, and Butter was wearing his collar and id tag. I did discover last night, after a call from my mom, that one of our handsets for our home phone was off the hook and since we hardly ever use that phone, we had no idea! Mom said she had called and called and the line kept being busy. Henry and Bo had apparently knocked the phone off the table several days ago. That's the number that is on his tag, so if someone tried to call, I wouldn't have known it. Hopefully someone will call today. Scott is at home recovering from surgery so he is listening for it.
I'll keep you posted if there is any word on our big boy. I went back in the archives and read the posts from when I found him yesterday. I loved that boy from day one, even though I have told you horrible stories about him over the years. He is very precious to me and I'm not sure anyone else could have ever tolerated or loved him the way I have. I continue to pray for him to come home safely.

Our potter is much like Butter, would not be an in house only kitty, same scenario and he went missing for 5 days a few years ago. My neighbor saw him playing with neighbor kids after 5 days, turns out they had sort of adopted him, my neighbor went and scooped him up and brough him back home.

Logan, years ago, I had a kitty that ran away when I was "ski bumming" in Aspen Colorado. She was gone for over a month. She did have tags and when someone finally got a hold of her because she was so starved and ill, they took her to a vet and I was called. She recovered (she didn't ski much after that) and lived to be 21!

So don't give up hope.

Butter may be hanging out in someone's garage. Who knows.

Right now, Juni-get-down is outside, on the lamb, again. She appeared for a moment this morning but then took off again. She escaped (pushed open a badly secured door) yesterday. I hope she comes back today, before I head off to work at noon.

Once a kitty needs to be outside, there isn't much we can do to MAKE them come home.

Lucy, my black barn cat, goes outside but always comes in when I do!

It was into the third week and I saw him - called him and he came right over to me. I was sobbing - it was a wonder he came to me.

Any chance he got trapped in an out-building? Maybe where they store

Some things come to mind, and forgive me if I am presuming these were thoughts that you haven't had.

Get neighborhood KIDS involved. Us adults are usually so busy doing too many things to really focus. The kids love to help, and can be the eyes and ears many times over.

Re-poster, re-call, revisit the clinics/shelters and any place you might have put up a flyer. People 'see' but don't really see the same sign day after day. Put up something new and fresh- throw out the reward and 'needs meds' words.

Remember that Butter might be 'hiding'..and dusk and dawn are key times for spottings.

Finally, if there are other homes in your community that have indoor/outdoor cats...go to their houses directly. First, you have their sympathies as a cat owner and more importantly...they would know if a strange cat has come to their door/window.

Zoe, that is one of the best pictures I have ever had of Butter. Those blue eyes were shining brightly, weren't they? I'm so glad you had the opportunity to meet both of my sweet babies, Butter and Mimi. And now they are both gone. :(
We will keep our faith and pray for Butter's safe return, but it is hard. Thank you all for your support and prayer for him. I think we also have to pray that if he has died that he did not suffer. Dr. R and I were talking about it this morning when I had Honey at the vet and he said it is so common for a cat like Butter to choose to go off alone when they become old and/or sick. He reminded me what a good mom I had been to Butter through thick and thin and all we had been through with his skin problems and bad "cattitude". I know all of that, but I'd much rather have my grumpy old man back at home or at least know what became of him.
If something changes, I'll be sure to update here.

Logan - this might be hard to do, but I did it years ago when a cat of mine went missing (I did find him, alive and well, trapped in a cottage basement - the cottage was for sale, had been shown to people, and he got in...I broke in through the basement!).

I called the highways/roads people to ask if they had found a dead cat. I was at the point I just wanted an answer.

Dr. R and I were talking about it this morning when I had Honey at the vet and he said it is so common for a cat like Butter to choose to go off alone when they become old and/or sick
