View Full Version : I'm Really Worried About Mama Kitty

My Mama Kitty is not feeling well at all. Won't eat her canned food.
She usually loves her food. She also has cat chow kibble available, but
I haven't seen her touch it.:( If there is no change by tomorrow, I'll have
to take her to the Vet. Please say a few prayers that this is not something
seriously wrong. I'm not really for her to leave me.:( :(
Mama Kitty is a tortie female (long haired) cat that has been with
me for over ten years. She was a cat I used to see hanging around
the back alley & I started to leave food for her. When I saw her babies,
One thing led to another & I adopted her & found homes for her babies.
(except for two which I brought into the house)

Lizbud,
She's beautiful!! Maybe her tummy is just hurting her. I think a trip to the vet is in order, if for nothing else, to rule out anything serious.
Great job, girl!

Prayers that it is just teeth or tummy. She is such a beautiful girl.

My, she looks like a combination of my RB Puddy and RB Pidgie. I do hope that it's nothing serious w/Mama Kitty and that she's back to normal very soon.

Thank you for prayers & positive thoughts for Mama. I love her a lot.
We have been through a lot together.:) Don't know if this is abnormal
or not, but I can see her sides contract every time she breaths.
Almost like she forces herself to breath.:(
She did eat some Whiska treats this morning, but just a few.

Poor Mama Kitty, glad she's eating a little, at least!

I think a vet journey is in order. It's not impossible it is teeth.
Mama seems to be a lady in her best age and it happens to the best of us.
All the best for her.

Poor Mama Kitty!! Let's hope it's just her teeth!! Any chance to get her to the vet?
Keeping her in my thoughts,

I made an appt for 3:45pm today. Now comes the hard part, getting
her to go in the carrier. I tried this morning, but no luck. She won't even
take a treat of her favorite. (Whiskas) I hate to stress her out even more
than she already is.:( I have a can of tuna & I'm going to try my best
to lure her again with that.

I'm so sorry to hear that she's not feeling well.:( I hope that the vet visit will go well and that it's nothing serious and can be easily treated. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck with getting her into the cat carrier too.:)

I dread that with one of my cats. Any chance you have a large dog crate? One small enough to transport/carry, but big enough to get her in there easier?
A beach towel is helpful, too. Sorry, sorry, sorry...I know it won't be easy.

Oh Liz, I'm so sorry to hear that your Mama Kitty isn't feeling well. :( I hope it's nothing serious and I hope you'll be able to get her into the box. Uhh, I know how difficult that can be.
The breathing problem doesn't sound good at all - could it be her lungs?
I'll send lots of good thoughts that the vet will be able to help and she can get back to normal.

Mama is still here. I've not been able to grab her, only make her feel worse.
I tried 3 different times & finally, I just let her calm down & breath better.
I don't want her last look at me,to be afraid. :(
The Vets office was short staffed all day. When the Vet answers the
phone, you know they are short of people. Can't spare anyone to come
here. The E Vets 24/7 clinics, & I could take her in if I can get her there.
I am going back to check on Mama & we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for the prayers offered.

Liz, if you can't get her in the carrier, wrap her in a towel and hold her; have someone drive you to the vet. The vet may not like it, but there are emergencies! We took my RB kitty Jamara to the vet that way for all 18 years we had her. She WOULD NOT go into a carrier.
If you can manage that, call the vet, tell them you're on the way and the cat is not in a carrier. They'll make sure there's somewhere you can take her.
Good luck!

Maybe not, Liz. I can't count how many times I thought it was the end for my Puddy, especially one time when she slowly walked out of my bedroom, then paused, turned and looked at me. It gave me chills and I thought sure it was the end but she lived for another year after that and, if you can recall, Puddy had so many issues. I hope that all will be well w/Mama Kitty and that your vet will have the answer. Keep the faythe.

Mama has retreated to the rafters in the garage.:( I didn't think she
would make it overnight, but she did & she's strong enough to climb the
shelving in the garage. I asked the guy across the street if he could
help me(they have cats too) and he came over, but no luck. He said he
is willing to try again later in the day, so we'l see how it goes.
Mama certainly is stronger than I thought she was, so I won't give up on her.

Liz- just putting ideas out there. Try a bedsheet, and make it into a giant pillowcase and trap her. Or, if there is a fisherman in your area...get his net (they used the net with my mom's cat- he is very starchy) and trap her with the net. You would prolly need a guy to flip it up, as the pole length is usually too long for a female's upper body strength to hold up.
Hugs to you and Mama Kitty.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have been racking my brain too. After the
neighboor guy went home for the last time, I put the carrier inside my car
and went back in house.I fed the dogs, and the inside cats & the three
regulars who have supper on my porch.
I went back out to check Mama again & she had come down from the rafters
I held out my hand & talked to her & she came right up to me and laid
her head against my leg.:( I could just cry.

Mama is gone.:( She crossed Rainbow Bridge at 1pm today.:(
I scruffed her myself & got her into the carrier. It went well and
she was scared at the Vets, but cooperated fairly well. After the
exam the Vet said she had fluid in her lungs & probably had been
sick for quite a while without me noticing.:( Vet thought she had a
tumor as well. Mama had a stroke while undergoing the chest xray.
She tried to lift her head, but could not. At that point I asked for her
to be PTS. She looked so bad.:( I got to stay with her afterwards.:(
My poor ,poor Mama.:( I asked for private creamation & her ashes
returned to me.

This still doesn't seem real to me. I can't believe she's gone.
The day started out so beautifully. I opened the garage door and
Mama came & sat in the doorway & I leaned up against the car. Mama
walked around the driveway & scoped out the scene. To me, she
looked & acted almost normal except for her raspy sound. I was sorry
that I didn't choose to put off her Vet visit, just one more day.:(
Her house mate ,Baby Kitty, is going to miss Mama a lot.:( Here is
a picture of Baby Kitty following Mama back to the Garage. She is about
3 yrs old, just never grew to adult size.

That's just it, Mama brought her babies ,one by one, into my garage

end when she needed me.:( I shoud have refused the chest xray because
the Vet said she couldn't sedate her because of the fluid in her lungs.

It might take a little time, Liz. My Boo Bear grieved for Pidgie when she died but they were together for 18 years. He's doing better now and Baby Kitty will, too. Just give her lots of lovin' and special time and slowly but surely she'll recover. We read much more into it sometimes, I think, than they're actually experiencing.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't beat yourself up - cats mask their illnesses so well. You did the best you could for her at the time. She's at peace now.

For Mama Kitty , Love you sweetheart.
Solace
From the silence of your pain I heard my name
and on the wings of light I have come
to see the sadness in your eyes
that cry without tears
Can you see me, I am here
I will always be near you
to calm your shattered heart
and to make you smile at the memories
Do you feel me, perhaps a soft brush of fur
You ache to believe it's real
but you are afraid to hope
You brush away a strand of hair
But it was I, whispering.....
I am only here for but a moment
The silver thread gently quivers
I will leave behind my love in a dream
When you awaken, and without really knowing why
Your heart will know at last
That it is all right, for now
to say good-bye
