Dakota got to go on her first long road trip with us this past weekend! She did a really good job, even though the ride was very close quarters for all three of us. We left on Thursday night around 5 and took our truck over to Mississippi to Brian's mom's house to see her over the long weekend. Dakota did a really good job with her new experience of meeting three new, and totally different, dogs! First she met Toby, a very big, loveable, yet old golden lab. Then she met Rascal, a puppy around her same age that is not even half of her size. They had a blast together. She was scared of him at first, but when she barked and he backed away from her, she conquerred her fear of him. They chased each other around and had a great time! Last, but not least, she met Brian's Grandma's dog, Buddy, a Boston Terrier that is about 12 years old! She did a fine job with him too, although she kept getting in trouble for trying to play when he doesn't want to.

Dakota also got an adventure with a couple of cats! They didn't do too good in the same room, but Dakota had a blast with them. She kept sniffing at them when we first got there even though they hissed at her. As the weekend went on, Dakota just chased them through the house, and either under the bed or into the laundry room (the door has a tiny whole that the cats can fit into but Dakota can't really even get her head inside)! It was so cute to see her this weekend!

But, over all, she did a great job and even slept most of the way on the actual trips. Brian and I we're very greatful for that though because the two of us with her on the bench in between us made for a very tight fit, especially since the trip took around 12 hours each way! This may of been her first long trip, but it's also her last long trip in our truck! Guess we'll have to take the Camry from now on!

What a fun trip for you and Dakota!! I'll bet she loved her big adventure and meeting all the doggies and kitties. She should get a special award for patience...12 hrs!!!!!!!!! Not sure I'd be as well behaved as Dakota after such a long trip!

Sounds as though you have a good puppers there. For any animal to last 12 hours on a trip, without being bad, well, you are lucky. Since the pup was 'locked' between the two of you, it was probably in heaven, being so close for such a long time.

Great to hear you had such a great trip! It could have been horrible if the puppers wasn't happy!

12 Hours! Wow! That's a long trip and looks like Dakota did great!! Drake goes on 4.5 hour dirves everyother weekend to go see his dad. He does very well, but not sure if he would on a 12 hours trip. We are still undecided whether we will be driving or flying to our next duty station. If it's not too far, we'll drive. If it's Germany or Alaska, we'll definetlyhave to fly.

LOL, Hopefully one day, hopefully one day!

Waht kind of dog is dakota??

Dakota is a 19 week old female Great Dane!

Since the pup was 'locked' between the two of you, it was probably in heaven, being so close for such a long time.

So true, so true!

And it also probably helped that she got really spoiled at Grandma's house, just like the human kids do!

Good girl Dakota!

LOL! When she's older, I don't think she'll be able to fit between you. ;) :D

Kia has quite a few 'frequent driving miles'. :)
