Hi All-

We as many of you know I rescue cats on my own from time to time and I also help Fondas Foundlings out as well.

Shirley (owner of Fondas Foundlings) told me the other day about some cats that are living in a drain spout.

So I found out where and offered to help trap. I went there yesterday afternoon during my lunch hour to set up the trap and wait and see what happens.

I spoke with a guy who lives across the street and told me about the stray cat problem they have and that there are 2 ladies who feed them.

I'm glad they are getting fed at least. But this could be a problem for trapping the cats but I guess we'll just have to see what happens. So this morning I was out at 5:45 a.m. setting up the trap and hoping to catch a cat.

No luck this morning. But at 6:30 a.m. I spotted 2 cats, semi-young looking at my trap, one went in but they didn't set it off, and I spotted an orange tigger cat. This one I'm thinking is the alpha male but I can't be too sure yet. I'm going to go this evening hopefully and see if I can trap any. Some of them go into the drain and I found the 2 going up under these bushes to stay.

I'll post pics once I get them hopefully. Shirley has one right now and it appears to be around 6-8 months old which seems about right because Shirley received a call last fall about a mom cat that had kittens up the street and when Shirley went to the ladies house to get the mom cat and kittens the mom cat had moved the babies.

I'm going to keep trying though of course:)

Melissa you are an angel, I admire the work you do, and I so hope you are successful with these cats, all my best wishes are with you.

Thank you for that.

It doesn't feel good right now though because I'm having the worst luck catching these cats.

I've seen one more so than others and it's a calico and she'll go into the trap and she goes halfway (I usually put just a little tiny bit of food in the front of the cage and then halfway back and then a bunch in the back of the cage) and she went in again this morning and grabbed the dish and took off with it.

She couldn't figure out how to flip it over to eat it but this is just so frustrating.

I'm going to try again maybe tomorrow morning but it's just frustrating.

is your trap a Havahart? We've had great success with those, but ONLY after fiddling a bit with the trigger bar on the outside- bending it or whatever so that there's a quicker response to a smaller movement of the floor plate that trips it- small cats wouldn't set it off for the longest time, we'd watch them mosey in, snork all the food, clean up leisurely, and stroll out, never set it off- then I did some adjustments and made it REAL sensitive, and THEN we got ALL the feral kittens and finally their mom and the assorted boyfriends too! Had to use a drop-trap to get Mom, she was a smart cat, caught three litters worth of kittens before we finally caught Mom-
BLESS YOU for what you do-- this world really needs far more folks like you- those critters don't know how good they're gonna have it! Keep up the WONDERFUL work- Godspeed-

You go, girl! Any way to talk to the ladies who are feeding them, explaining that holding back food for 2 days will not hurt them, but they will be hungry enough to go into the trap to eat. Emphasize how important it is that they do this. It's the only way you're going to catch these cats. If they're not hungry, they're not going to bother.

You are a saint!

That reminds me of the time when I was trying to catch Pouncer Roccalno
and I had a humane trap and every day there would be a different angry stray in the cage.
The food disappears in a flash here and I know Pouncer Roccalno , the Earl of Ebony and another Black and White young Cat are out there but like you I cannot get them to believe I want to help them before illness of cars claim them:(
I pray that I can catch the Earl Of Ebony , hes young and a Great Cat!!!:love:

Sorry I haven’t updated everyone till now but things as you know have been semi-crazy for me. Anyway, back on Feb. 25th I was finally able to catch one of the cats. It’s a girl too. Female tortie very beautiful.

She is very scared but hopefully she will turn out to be friendly with time.

The other girl cat I was finally able to get on March 4th. She’s another tortie too! Very pretty.

Well the reason why I’m finally updating this thread is because I was on my way home for lunch (taking Apollo back home (see my other thread)) and my cell range and it was Shirley saying that the one sewer kitty I caught was giving birth.

She already had them by the time I was able to get over there, we are not sure if she is going to have anymore this afternoon or not but she already has 5 kittens. Oh they are so adorable too, 3 tigers and 2 orange possibly tigers or torties.

Anyway they are super cute and this is the closest I’ve been to see a cat give birth.

I can’t tell you the joy I have right now seeing those tiny little guys knowing that with my help they were able to be born indoors instead of outdoors.

Well just thought I’d share my little pre-Easter joy with you all. Sorry the picture was taken with my phone so it isn't that great but at least you get an idea of what she looks like.
