Here in the States we have a few crazy traditions and 'holiday'.
We pull a poor groundhog out of his house and make him a weather man, If he sees his shadow, there will be a short winter. If not, we are in trouble.
Of course, the Ground Hog is treated way better than most of the people in the town, so no worries there.
But, those crazy PETA want to replace him....I fail to see why!:mad:

And just who or WHAT do they want to replace him with? :(
We are in for another winter storm. from 3 to 6 inches or snow but maybe as much as 12. They aren't real sure yet what track the storm will take just that it's on it's way, bringing sub-zero temps with it. :(:(
Hope there is plenty of hot cocoa and mallows on tap. :D

With all the lights from all the cameras, of COURSE he sees his shadow. And I doubt he even really wakes up for long.
Aunt Zsa was a Groundhog Day baby, she passed away last year. So in memory of Aunt Zsa, I propose we have a lovely tea at one end of the bar, with frilly napkins, and delicate cookies, scones and tea from a steaming china pot. Don't worry, I'll bring my prettiest teapot, and the delicate porcelain cups that we only use for special events, but I'll have a couple mugs handy for those whose hands are too big for the teensy delicate handles on them.

We're very familiar with Phil in this household. My husband's family is from a rural area in PA where "Punxsy" is the BIG town! :)
In honor of Punxsy Phil - a DOTD and I made a special mac & cheese with bacon and broccoli to share. Anyone?

I'll make some hot chocolate, and still in honor of Aunt Zsa, I'll even serve it in the lovely hot chocolate pot and cups - porcelain of course, that I inherited from Aunt Bertha! I said "what's that" at the shape of the pot, and my antique-dealer friend told me "hot chocolate pot, of course"! My best hot chocolate is extra rich, and has cinnamon added - want some, Gayle? Others?

Count me in on the hot chocolate Karen. It's turning cold again after being rather mild.
I didn't know anyone knew what a hot chocolate pot was. I have a beautiful one with 6 matching cups that belonged to my mother, so I suppose it qualifies to be called an antique now. I have it in my china cabinet, along with a beautiful tea set and some other very old pieces. They all have a "look, but don't touch" status! :)

Well, I guess I started all of this! Those dunderheads at PETA think that bringing Phil out of his cave for five minutes will distrupt his hibernation. I'd rather put PETA in that cave and seal it! RICHARD, a strong coffee with Bailey's will be perfect on a day we're having here in western Pa! Right now we're having occasionally strong snow squalls coming through.

No - that's not the ones Karen and I have and were talking about. The one you found is a new fangled modern thing. The ones we have are old and made of porcelain - some with very intricate detail. A lot of them were Victorian style. The set I have that was my mother's, was a wedding gift to her and my father, and they were married sometime back in the 20's.

They aren't very big. This one measures 7.5 inches tall to the top of the spout, and 5.25 Inches in diameter at the base. It has 6 matching cups, but I just put one in so you could get the idea.

Thanks! This set is really pretty plain compared to some of the VERY ornate ones I've seen. If you Google "antique hot chocolate pot", you'll see what I mean.
The little cups hold 4 oz, and the pot will give you 8 of those. Remember - this was in the days when folks were more refined and didn't drink from big mugs or super-size their drinks!:D I can just picture the ladies sitting around sipping their hot chocolate (with that pinky finger extended of course), just like they did at their tea parties! ;)

Barkeep, in the meantime, IT'S FRIDAY!! Work's done, time for a Vodka and Diet Ginger (since I'm not in Utah anymore) and maybe some good cheddar with Triscuits? Anyone want some?
On a side note - IT'S PET EXPO THIS WEEKEND!! What does my little girl need that she doesn't have?? Have to really think about that! Anyone want me to look for anything for them?
Karen
01-29-2010, 04:35 PM
Here is my hot chocolate pot, I have I think 6 of the small cups, and maybe 4 of the tea cups. I also took a shot from the top, so you can see the unique shape of the spout, and an extra comparison shot with a normal modern size mug - my Pooh mug - next to one of the hot chocolate cups. The porcelain is so delicate I worried about scrubbing too hard when I washed it!
The pattern is Maidenhair by Malmaison, Germany, J&C company, if anyone was curious.
Isn't it pretty? ;) And now you can see why I said I do have mugs for those whose hands are too big for the delicate cups!

01-29-2010, 05:51 PM

Karen
01-29-2010, 09:23 PM
Yes, but the cups are so delicate and small! So we must sip slowly and enjoy the company, and refill often, right?
Not only do I tend to use my modern-sized mug for hot chocolate, I sometimes use an even bigger one! :)
It is bitter cold here tonight, the weather channel says it's 11 above, but "feels like" 8 below zero! Good night for staying in and having a nice cup of cocoa. Anyone want some? Your choice - pretty little cup, mug or larger!

Hello everybody! Hope you are feeling good this Saturday morning. Me? I am cold. We have snow, and ice here in TN. The roads are very bad. I certainly can't drive on them, I am very dangerous on roads like these.
Happy Birthday Moff, have a good one.

Yeah, reminds me of the dentist joke.

Yikes - but I can do you better than that! I have a pin in my foot - a metal straight pin, like one uses for sewing? It's just missing the head, and I don't know who was more surprised, me or the doc, the first time me feet were x-rayed! shudder.
At least the steel stuff CAN be found.
The splinter punched thru the callus, it POPPED thru, then the tail end broke off.
As the callus wore down, the splinter began to come out, but my walking would jam it in to the underlying skin.
It caused all my toes to hurt and at night I would thrash about trying the 'kick' the darn thing out.
The callus it was stuck in peeled off leaving me a little dimple about the size of a dime on my sole-My SOUL is in far worse condition, but I digress?
Everything is better now but I am a firm believer of taking care of your feet!
