If you could only choose one breed of dog to own foeever and never get a new kind of dog, only one certain kind, what kind would that be?

I could not possibly make that choice! If forced I would say "mutt" as there is an infinite variety in dogs in the world, and they all need love!

It would probably be the American cocker spaniel. I'll probably always have one in my life, though I do want many other breeds.

I have to say the one I have ,Koko, since statistics say she will out live me. I will be 70 in March and if I live to the average for today, I have 4 years to go. My father died at 74 and his died at 73. Koko should have at least 9-10 years if she lives the average for either of of the Breeds that contribute to her Gene pool. She is what I would pick even if I was only 20.:love:

A Beagle, although Mikey is part pug, he's mostly and obviously Beagle. I always had a feeling I'd love beagles and I DO. I just love em. They're anything I could want in a dog.
Border Collie no contest.

I'd say a collie!

It's impossible to choose just one for me. I love both of my current breeds equally, but for different reasons. I can't choose one over the other... one of each (a Toller and a Dobe) is ideal to me at this point in my life. And who knows, at some point I might want to try another breed as well. I like variety. :)

Well I'm not sure if I could pick only one. It would be a toss up between a Rottweiler and a Chow.

I don't think I can honestly say a particular breed yet. I do know I always want a medium-sized dog capable of long walks/hikes and other physical exercise. Right now Ethan fits that criteria perfectly. :)

Gosh, this is such a difficult question for me!
I've never owned anything besides Labrador Retrievers. I love them to death, but they are so common, but for a good reason, they are excellent family dogs, and for the most part, have wonderful friendly, goofy temperaments! I think all Labs have a somewhat different personalities, Sadie and Rita are nothing alike, LOL!
I could definitely see myself owning a larger breed, like a Rottweiler. I could also see myself with a Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, my neighbor has a Wheaton girl (Maggie) and she's so full of life!:) Wheaton's are very high energy dogs, and need constant exercise! Well, they are Terriers!;)
I have also found myself to be very fond of Pugs. They have numerous health problems, this breed is basically a mess health wise.:( They are great little dogs, and I love the fact that they think they are huge.:D They have such spunky personalities, and I love that in a dog.
Other than that, I'm not completely sure on which breed I will own next, lol!

It would probably be Dalmatians. :)

Dalmatians!!! Oh, they are my heart breed. I love them so much. :) I have decided that I cannot live one year for the rest of my life without them.

Hmmm...
Although I LOVE Boxers... they can be a little bit crazy and high energy for me. They need rigorous exercise EVERY day, which isn't best for my busy lifestyle. Luckily my brother is the one who exercises Springen. They are perfect otherwise... goofy personalities and just plain HAPPY. So human-like it amazes me sometimes.
If I could only choose one, I think I would go with Cocker Spaniels. Sam is such an absolute sweetie, he's happy going out on hikes with me or being lazy on the couch for the day. They're adaptable dogs, farm or apartment living. And as long as you go through a reputable breeder or adopt an adult dog from the shelter, you can avoid aggressive dogs that unfortunately has been bred into some of them (by BYBs). They're awesome dogs! And CUTE for sure :)

Wow... really tough question. I'd have to go with Dachshunds. I absolutely love the breed, and it's one of my heart breeds. But I'm torn, because Beagles are my other heart breed.
No matter what kind, or how many dogs I have in the future, there will always be a Dachshund and a Beagle in my home.

this is a tough question to answer.
i'd have to say Siberian huskies, i love all breeds of dogs, but I'm bias.
Siberian huskies are one of the harder breeds to handle, train, and socialize but i think the work is worth the prize.
i love all Spitz breeds.

A Rottie hands down. Their personality, temperament, size, etc just mixes best with mine. I know I'd never want any kind of collie type of dog ever again!!!!! Digi & I clash a lot, doesn't mean I don't love her to death!! We are just a poor match.

I will always have a Belgian Malinois. They're extremely loyal, brave and are psychotic. :p:rolleyes: Whatever they do, they give it their all. They're not for everyone and are definitely not for the faint of heart. They will absolutely take advantage of you if given the chance and are too smart for their own good. They're also lots of fun, athletic, and very fun to train!

I agree!!! There are way too many breeds to choose from, why not just combine them? Mutts are less prone to health problems, too :)

I'm answering your question as you asked it, but keep in mind that I love all dogs, but the breed I love the most and would have again, over and over, is the Golden Retriever. They are the perfect personality and size for me.

Hard to answer that one. Shepherds have always been my breed of choice but then I've had quite a few wee ones and enjoyed them just as much. I'm just a dog person so I would probably fall in love with any dog.
What I like most about the tiny breeds is that they can cuddle on the bed with you , Shepherds don't fit that criteria.

09-09-2010, 08:57 PM
Golden Retrievers, of course.
Would you expect anything else out of "GoldenLover" lol
Seriously though, I  the breed. I love all of their hair. I love that they love water, because I'm a water baby myself! I love their temperment (even though puppies are hell on wheels because they have so much energy). I still love them. I love that I never have to worry about my dog not getting along with another dog or person- they are so happy-go-lucky and treat everyone as their new best friend. They can always can make me smile.
I went back and forth on what breed I wanted for my second pup. I thought about a bunch of other breeds, but when it came down to it, I knew I wanted another Golden.

I'm not sure if I have responded to this thread or not, but to be honest, I have no idea what breed is the 'right breed' for me! I have yet to discover that one! But I can't wait to find out!
I don't think I could pick just one breed. My top faves are Great Danes and Siberian Huskies.

I think the kind of dog you get would depend on you and yourr living situation. For instance, do you live in a small apartment? or a house? Do you have a big yard? Are you in the city or country? Do you want a big dog in your apt or house? Many points need to be considered. Do you have allergies? Do you want an active dog? Are you active? Do you have children? You wouldnt want to get a little dog and have the children accidentally harm it. If children are around, you would want a dog with a consistently good nature with children.
I have no children, live in the country, and I have a lab mix that was a stray that loves the outdoors and I have a chihuahua terrier inside. Previously I had a mini doxie and a rat terrier, both of whom I adored. The lab mix that came here has a wonderful attitude with everyone as does my chihuahua terrier.
There are MANY dogs to choose from. IMO you need to find one that suits your lifestyle and temperment. Kay in NC

For me, my favorite dogs are little dogs. Right now my favorite is what I have: a chihuahua terrier mix, very small, very sweet, loving and friendly. Before that I had a rat terrier that I loved and before that a mini doxie. Also I've thought about little poodles and Yorkshires but never had one. Kay in NC

Kaycountrygal- What kind of kitty do you have pictured down there? Is it a Birman or Ragdoll? We have a Birman- he's such a sweetheart! I  my Jinxy-cat!

GoldenLover---- Hi, I noticed your beautiful Jinx this morning and thought he and my Luke looked alot alike. Luke was a freebie. A neighbor was going to take Luke & his siblings to an animal shelter and I took Luke (other folks took the other two kittens). His mother was a Persian mix... dont know about his father but maybe a Siamese--neighbor didnt know. (IMO she should have had her cat spayed--but I got Luke out of it.) I've always thought he is a mix of Persian (med long hair) and Siamese and he is a BIG BOY at 27 lbs. He was a big kitten and the vet says he is healthy.
BTW I've always thought Ragdolls are lovely cats but dont know much about Birmans but yours is really pretty. Kay in NC

Actually, given the size of the Dog, I have two choices.
Small(er): Got to be Yorkies.
Large: Bracco Italiano. I've never seen an Animal, that looked so Proud !
Have a good Day ! :)
