Do your cats play with certain toys "only when you don't look"?
Ritz has this BIG fake fur mousie (actually we refer to it as a "rattie") - a large version of the smaller variety. ONce she mangled the tail, she lost interest (this happens to the small ones too)....HOWEVER, several times a month, this little gem magically appears at the top of the stairs outside the bathroom door! So she DOES play with it!
Last night, about an hour after I had gone to bed, I heard Ritz in the hallway (our door is always open so she can come in to cuddle).....she was crying like she was hurt or sick, so I get up right away and turn on the light. Here's Ritz, sitting in that "pretty cat" pose like a statue with her tail curled around her front feet, with the "rattie" right in front of her! I guess she wanted me to see what she had done??
I petted her and she laid down wanting a tummy rub, then I asked "want to chase mousie?"...sure enough she jumped up and leapt down two steps, which is my signal to throw the mouse. She chased it down the stairs, but then REFUSED to play with it any more or even acknowledge it was there.
Back to bed for mommy-----but later in the morning, there it was AGAIN!
I think she feigns disinterest so I'll keep buying "fresh" mousies!! Spoiled kitty!

Too cute Ritzy! :)
Our furkids usually play only when we are home...it's wierd. We'll come home and everything looks like we left it....unless mommy gives them some tissue paper from her dry cleaning to play with. :D

Edwina has toy baskets throughout the house   , the living room, family room (3), at the top of the stairs and in our bedroom. Lately I have come home to find toys from the basket at the top of the stairs and our bedroom downstairs. This week it was a kitty kong she got last year for Christmas and had never played with once!

I can relate - I have this assortment of little fake fur covered balls that have little bells inside them. I've had them for about 2 years...they were "snubbed" by Ritz and virtually ignored (after the ritual "air burial" that she gives those toys that don't warrant her attention)
One night, we were watching TV and I heard the sound of little tinkle bells...sure enough, Ritz was banging one around against the kitchen walls...until I walked in, she was standing with one paw on the ball and IMMEDIATELY pushed it away and walked off...no interest since, (that I know of)

Has anyone experienced this with their cats...unspoken communication between them. I know I may sound weird, but...
For example, if Dawn is asleep upstairs, under the bed ....dead to the world and if we are playing with Slushy (who is a tuxedo cat) with the laser pointer...and she is having a good time trying to catch that red dot....Dawn will appear as though she was summoned to be there. Ready for the action.
It's as though Slushy called her down.
I can understand sometimes one of them wants attention and meows enough that the other has to check out what is going on...but this is different.
It has happened enough my husband swears they have telepathic ability, but I have to wonder.

Mine play with the dog's rope (it's a medium size one). Every morning, it is a ritual, it is outside the bedroom door. They (I say they because I don't know which one it is) carries it up 16 stairs and leave it outside the door.
We have never witnessed actually playing with it (even by the dog), but the rope has made an appearance in every room.
I know it's not the dog playing with it because she doesn't really like toys...at four she is just starting to acknowledge that they exist (and she plays with the cat toys).

LOL YES!!! Can you imagine if they were bigger what they would do to our furniture every night???? ;) :D It would be a new HGTV special...like "While you were out"...only it would be
"While They Sleep" - This week, Ritz and her Pettalk buddies, Edwina, Noah, Casper, Dawn and Slushy hire the heavy movers to get rid of all that stuffy furniture, install 3 foot-wide window sills and replace the carpeting with purr pads, paste furry mice all over the walls, remove the ceiling fan and hang cat teasers from the rafters!

heheheheh
:D :D :D
It would only prove what us cat owners already know...they are in charge and we are "lucky" to serve them and be allowed to live in the house (only because they don't have thumbs and can't quite figure out how the can opener works...and if they do know how they are probably too smart to waste their time when we do it for them).
Now I have to go to work and make them money.

Yes tuxluvr - Bagel has a wine cork - she's had it for eighteen months or there about. Never see her playing with said cork - but every now and then we hear this NOISE that can only be BagelPlaying and sure enough - it's the cork. Goodness knows where she hides it - we never find it!!:D :D :o :o :D
