View Full Version : Get your motor running Thursday #351!

RICHARD

It's racecar Thursday!

An astute race fan and Thursday's regular, LH, sent me this idea for the thread theme!

There are two engines with that displacement in Ford history. One is the 351 C, designed a the Cleveland engine plant in OH.

The other is the 351 W, designed in Windsor, Ontario.

The 351C is a better drag engine, the W is a better all around engine.
So, I think we can have a NASCAR/race themed Thursday!

We can have beer, and serve the food that you can get at the race track.

Burgers, fries and hot dogs.....

Lady, Come here, I've got good hot dogs, not the cheap kind with nitrates and doggie pills in them!

DONE!

I'm going to put on my headset, dial in my favorite driver's team chatter and start with dessert. Funnel cake please!!

Ummm...my guess is the food is not trans-fat free? :D

I'll start with a coffee, with cream and a packet of Stevia, and see where I go from there!

Oh, I carry the Stevia with me, no worries!

Now I'll sit back and learn a bit about racing!:)

I'll take a Sam Adams (Yes, you can get those at the track) and a brat loaded with peppers and onions, and a pile of fries that look like they've been fried in used motor oil (The fries are from the drag strip in Norman, OK.......great fries, but they look like heck!)

Can we get a cheer for US F-1? Good luck, guys, get that thing on the track!

Funnel cake, You got it!

DONE!

LH,

Once the fries get under your nose, it don't really matter.

LOL, I was at the track once and some joker pulls out a giant sub sandwich. I knew he DIDN'T buy it at the track because that would have been too good to be true. Sam Adams, brat, onions and peppers.

Lady, your dad has the GOOD FOOD.....

DONE!

Catty,
It's easy you pick a car, color, driver or number you like and root for them.

The girls like the way a man looks in a fire suit, too!

Coffee and cream.....Stevia! Give us a report on how you like it!

I know it's so much more fun when you catch the drivers saying something colorful. Even the radio station that broadcasts during the race if you have the channel you can hear them talking about what they're going to cover next between the commercial breaks. One time we were at either Pocono or Daytona and they were talking about a bunny crossing the backstretch during the race. I don't know if the bunny made it or not but I'm guessing it did because they never said anything durning the actual race broadcast.:D

He's not that far from Watkin's Glen, he's east of it. Aunt Shirley lives west of it, and when we visited it as kids - LH was maybe 4 or 5, we walked down the Glen instead of up, as Charles - Aunt Shirley's husband, but he was always just Charles, not Uncles Charles - had emphysema and could not have managed the hike up. Ma was terrified of heights, so hugged the canyon walls all the way down, and our task, as the older kids, was to keep LH from careening over the edge!

That's why I listen to the radio broad cast while I'm at the race because usually my driver doesn't say that much (31 Jeff Burton) and neither does Fred's (5 Mark Martin) but when I go with my girlfriend her driver (Robby Gordon) gets very colorful on the radio.

I've only been to Busch/Nationwide races so far. But when I'm there, I listen to radio chatter in one ear and the radio broadcast in the other! At home, I usually have the TV on and Kasey's radio on one computer and the officials' channel on the a different computer. As much as I'd like to add the radio coverage and mute the TV, I thought that might be a bit over the top! :D I can only imagine Robby's radio!

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought of the Steppenwolf song "Born To Be Wild".

When I was very little my great-grandparents lived near the old Santa Fe Speedway ... Rrrrrrr! Rrrrrrr! They had auto racing at Sportsman's Park outside Chicago for a few summers in the early '00s - we could hear it from my mom and dad's yard ... Rrrrrr! Rrrrrr!

So - could I have a Sam Adams, please?

The USPS is losing money. Got it.

HOWEVER...........

We're reworking our office, which include reworking quite a bit of the LAN architecture. We have a spare switch currently not in use. To move offices in accordance with their plans, we need more LAN access in one area.

My proposed solution..........take one of the site spares from the rack it is currently in, move it to the rack where we need more active ports, cable it appropriately, and problem is solved. Total cost=the labor required to do the cabling and moving the switch.

Management's solution:

Buy a new switch ($3500) and put it in the rack which needs more capability.

So.........

$3500 to buy a switch we don't need, but I can't get a $50 bench vise?

$800 for a welder, but we can't get another ratchet set for one of the mechanics?

Tell me again that it's labor's fault we're losing money.

Minor correction........then we'd only have two spares, not three, and the spare switches are less than a year old. I realize that's an eternity in tech terms, but the systems on the network are anywhere from 2-25 years old....I don't think they need the level of connectivity that a new system requires.

blue
01-15-2010, 01:22 AM
Old tech is still needed and used, a guy on another board is looking for a HPCN50 to HPCN50 SCSI cable. I thought I had one but I dont, I do have a couple of 50 pin SCSI/25 pin cables though.

Utahan Mormons are evidently very serious about Ginger Ale - regular Ginger Ale. They have more varieties than I've ever seen. Mormons can't have caffeine and they love it. I was talking to the guy making the soda delivery to the store and he had never even HEARD of diet. He told me they didn't make it (Schweppes) - I said yes, they do, I buy it back home. He said "not in the state of Utah".

Just back from skiing-we got a foot last night and skiing was wonderful. It's time to say goodbye to Park City, though, we fly out in the morning.

We're having red wine and take and bake pizza for our last meal - anyone care for some? Any preference of toppings.

you all want a good chuckle? I posted this on Angel's thread earlier but since not all of you all see that. Well, here goes:

Thought you might enjoy my adventure this morning.
I was sitting in my big chair this morning. Suddenly I heard a loud ringing/buzzing. I have been battling an ear infection so at first I didn't pay it any mind.

It got louder and woudn't stop. I went into other rooms. No noise. I walked around outside the house. No noise. Back in the front room, loud annoying noise!!!

I unplugged everything electric and made sure everything was off. Still noise continued. It sounded like it was coming from the ceiling crawl space to me. So I called a electrician.

They came and couldn't find what was causing it either. They turned off power to the entire house. Noise still continued. They called for advise from their boss. He said it could possibly be cable or telephone lines. They were getting ready to go outside and disconnect those to see if noise stopped.

The youngest guy (and the one with the best hearing of all of us) went behind my chair. He kept swearing the noise was coming from there somewhere.

"I found it!" he yelled. He dove under my chair and pulled out an old electronic poker game I've had for years. Apparently Winnie had knocked it off a stand this morning and broke the on/off switch. It was squawking!!!

How embarrassing!!! :o But I am so glad nothing was shorting out in my house wiring or anything.

Wasn't it nice of God to keep me distracted so I wouldn't worry about Angel this morning? ;) :D (she is at the vet's for her big girl surgery)

Of course, when I get the bill for an emergency service call, I may not feel quite so blessed.

See, Playing poker can get you into trouble!!!! ;) :D

On a warm summer's evenin' on a train bound for nowhere,
I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin' out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.

He said, "Son, I've made a life out of readin' people's faces,
And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
And if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice."

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right."
