Ok... some of you remember Bob and his metamorphis from a multicolored marbled pup with a medium length coat. Well, he turned out to be this shaggy mutt - pretty much blond colored. We got a DNA test kit from friends for Christmas - sort of a running joke as everyone who meets Bob wants to know what kind of dog he is. It is just what you think it would be, You cotton swab some cheek cells and send them to a lab and some 2-3 weeks latter they send you back any matches they may find. Very scientific, they want you to separate the dog (if you have other dogs) for at east an hour from the others before testing and also make sure that he has a clean unused drinking bowl that you make sure he has drinken from before testing. We will let you know the results. You can visit their website to see the listing of breeds in their database. Have fun and guess what results might come back. A couple of pics of Bob. I can posts more if you want.

Definitely some kind of terrier. In his adult pics, he looks like a twin to my RB Cinnamon. She was a Heinz 57 - terrier and who knows what else. ;)

Gosh, Bob has that "you ought to be in movies" look to him. I assume his personality is identical to his looks? Sweet and cute!
I don't remember Bob as the dog of the day, but that is my loss. He certainly has changed since then but still cute as the dickens.
More photos please.

Cairn terrier in there for sure!
I hope that is among the breeds they can identify. What fun!

Yes... he sure has. Here is a timeline of how he "evolved". He almost just looks like a different dog than he did as a pup.

He's really cute. He has changed a LOT! I think he's actually cuter now that he's older... He favors my dog, Angel a lot! She's part maltese/pomeranian.

Whatever breed he is he sure is adorable.:) His change kind of reminds me of my cat Pearl except that she got darker instead of lighter as she got older. She started out very white and cream colored. As she got older she got darker and her tabby points came out.:)

He really is adorable. That is amazing how his color changed. Definitely looks like the kind of boy that should be in show business. :)

Bob has been swabbed and we will sending off his DNA tomorrow. Takes like 7-10 days for results - not 2-3 minutes we see on TV and CSI. I will let everyone know what "they" say he is!

to wait for Bob's DNA tests, Since they don't seem to have a broad database on terriers, I am thinking that they are going to come back with a Parson's Russel. I can't wait. Curiosity is getting the better of me!!!

OK... so Bob's DNA results came back. AND GUESS what??? They have 3 DNA matches (as is common in mutts). And the results are rated by LEVELS. Level 1 is over 75% ; 2 is 30-74% ; 3 is 19-30& and 4 is 10-19% - if you are following all of that. Well his highest level is 2 and it was DNA from a Lhasa Apso then there was a believable level 4 for a Beagle (he does have a high prey drive and will scent trail), but get this - he got a level 3 for a GREAT DANE???!!! I guess anything is possible. LOL!

Maybe they don't have Wheatons in the database - I don't see any Great Dane in him at all, but the hair is definitely very Wheaton-like, as well as Lhasa Apso.

No Karen, Wheatons were not in their data base. As were not many other fairly popular breeds, but it was interesting and to see the results was fun. Reading about the Lhasas sounded like they had Bob totally pegged. Quite the watchdog and he doesn't not like strangers. He hears things in middle of the night that no-one else does - and he flies down the stair to look out the window and bark. Usually a passing car or cat or worse yet - someone actually walking out in the street. He wakes up everyone and usually scares whoever or whatever is outside. A very interesting observation was that they say that Lhasas coats start out often patchy and with colors. But often fade and become blonde other neutral color as the hair lengthens. THAT IS JUST WHAT BOB's did.

Husky Mom, you were right - kinda. We thought Terrier for sure too, but I guess a Lhasa is a terrier of a sort... but that Great Dane thing... I dunno.

Those DNA tests are pretty much just a money making sceme. I would not take what they say as gospal.
I see a lot of JRT in him and maybe something with a longer coat.

LOL...I did not see the results until just now. Great Dane...wow. Too funny. Was he kissing a Great Dane before the test? :D
