I'm opening up the Dog House discussion with this question. I'd appreciate your feedback.
No, I don't think she got a fair trial and I think the US needs to intervene. I'm glad her attorney is filing an appeal.

I watched this last week on 20/20 I think it was. It honestly did not seem to me that she did get a fair trial. What a nightmare for her family! I don't know how the courts work and if the US can intervene but something has to be done for this poor girl. Very scary.

:) I really dont know the Laws over there to say yes or no.. Keep in mind she was in that Country of her own free will.. The same would happen if the shoe was reversed..

I totally disagree. Call me naive but I think we afford citizens of other countries the same rights to the justice system here that we give our own citizens. I believe an Italian suspect of a crime here would get a much better trial and representation than an American suspect would in Italy.

The judge that oversaw the trial is under investigation for taking bribes (I think) and the jurors were not allowed to speak of the trial or the deliberations. I just hope for her sake, the jails in Italy are kind to her.

It sounds like her Jailors and cell mates are very kind to her. However jurors were seen sleeping during testimony and they are not sequistored, there is a public uprising against her similar to the O.J. trial here.

I'm on the fence with this one. Should the United State intervene if there's going to be a HUGE issue and future problems wth Italy over it? Sometimes you have to think of the masses before the one. I am not really sure where I stand with the case but I am just thinking logically for the future. Now, I am not saying there's going to be a war over this issue, but hey, ya never know. It's not like little thinks haven't sparked wars in the past. Like I said. think of the masses before the one. Yes, I'm aware she's an American citizen but if she murdered someone she should get what she deserves. A problem with Italy over one person seems a bit silly to me, and it most certainly is not needed, especially at this moment.
I am aware some people will think it is about our 'image' as a nation and it shows we allow other countries to walk all over us, but I still stand on the side of "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one", and now my Star Trek nerdiness is kicking in. Do I think we should make a HUGE deal over this? No. Do I think we should possibly do a little something? Maybe. I really need to research this case more though.

I don't think she got a fair trial. When all this first started I remember there were questions about the investigation and evidence being tainted. Sadly, we may never know what really happened.

I just don't think she is innocent. Not sure to what extent she was involved but I do believe she was in the apartment when the girl was murdered.
As far as a fair trial when in Italy.................
