Kia's off to the vet tomorrow. Her nose is severely chapped and cracked on the left side.

Probably nothing, but better safe than sorry.

Prayers for my old lady. :)

Her nose is severely chapped and cracked on the left side.

Sudden onset, or has it been developing for a while?

Got any idea what the INdoor Humidity is in the apartment? Vet's prolly going to ask.
Low humidity is common when the heat comes on ... dries stuff out ... even Noses.

Has she had a "runny nose"?
SmokeMutt geta a runny snooter every once in a while ...
Looks like a drippy faucet ... I say "Euwww ... SMOKE - Wipe your nose!"

Since he has no pokits to carry Kleenex ... if he doesn't *wipe* with
my pants or a nearby padded furniture piece ...
The ole "licker" comes out and the problem is gone for the short term. :p

If "licked" to the excess ... might lead to a chapped snooter.

Hope it's a Quick Fix!

:)

Sort of a sudden onset. Noticed it a couple of days ago. She's never had anything like this in the past.

I thought it was simply a cold she had but now it's cracking and bleeding. And it's only the left side... from the middle over. Right side is moist like normal.

Humidity is around 60% and Chipper's nose is normal.

Not runny at all and no excessive licking that I've noticed.

Eating, drinking, playing, and pooping is normal.

Here's hoping it's nothing that a little care won't fix. We'll be thinking of her!

So I guess that's why you're gonna go See da VET!

Wonder if she *bumped* just that side into something?

Glacier's Kids sometimes get their noses / faces into (forget the name)
a very UN-friendly bush or grass that works it's way into the nostril -
I think it takes a Vet's Touch to clean 'em out.

Has she chased a Porky-Pine that couldn't hit much? Maybe he got
ONE quill in that you haven't spotted?

Or, maybe she just *likes* da Vet! :p

Good Luck, Kids! ;)

If the vet can't find any health issue. you can buy Bag Balm and rub that on it 3 times per day.

He may find no underlying issue, but an infection may have set in. Antibiotic cream / pills.

Hope it is nothing more serious. Let us know!

Hey all! She'll live. ;)

Her nose does have inflammation (both nostrils) and oddly enough there is a little yellow discharge in the right nostril, but the vet doesn't think it's anything serious. In her opinion it's just 'old age'. :o

I have some drops to put in her nose 3x a day to combat the inflammation and keep infection out. Then I have to smear chapstick on as needed.

Should clear up in a week or so. :)

That's good. :) If you don't want to use chapstick, I second the bag balm. Real good stuff.

I was also thinking that the change in seasons and the start of furnaces (dryer air) can contribute to dryer noses and chapped lips - just like in humans.
