I think Great Danes are, well GREAT> I like the black and white (maybe a little more black than the one in the picture above). We recently had a Great Dane come in the shop I work for that was SOOOOOOOOO big, three of us could just barely get it into the tub. But what a gentle giant.

We have 2 Danes...Jazzy is a mantle merle and Daisy is a mantle. Both are rescues...Jazz from Animal Control and Daisy found running an alley eating out of garbage cans.

Are you trying to use a picture on your computer? to show it, the picture has to be uploaded to a web site, or you could simply attach the picture from your computer

well its sort of a long story...so i'll give a brief synopsis...
my dear Ms. Puss passed to the Rainbow Bridge on aug. 20th....
so after i felt just a little better i went to the P-o-u-n-d to get a new kitty that delilah and i could love...well, the cat room was under renovation...so they did what????they showed me their newly refurbished dog rooms......
there he was...Joey...an 8 1/2 mo. old BIG DOG.....i could see the dane immediately in him....however when he stood up...there was the other half showing....JOEY is a Danemation......YES a GREAT DANE/DALMATION!!!!!!!!!
Delilah is a Dalmation/hound mix......
so now i have a pair!!!! of BIG SPOTS!!!!!
if he didn't have a name i would have called him Samson!!!! how fitting would that have been?!?!?!?
He is wonderful....now 10 mos.,90lbs...and stands level with my hip....with 6 more months of growing time!!!!
Someday...i hope that i can learn to post pics so i can show off my "BOOKENDS!!!!"
they are a truly wonderful pair!!!!!

I have always loved Great Dames, they are so beautiful and have such a kind heart. I like the tan ones, not sure what they are called. I prefer a more solid colour. I have always wanted to get a Great Dane but have heard they only have lif spans of 8 - 10 years and am not sure I could go through losing a dog at what seems like such a young age.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Sadly yes, this is true of Great Danes and most giant breeds (ie...irish wolfhounds and mastiffs). Due to their size they have a short life span.

Mantle is also called Boston, However, the Akc changed it due to the Boston terrier breeders complaining. Here is a description of the other colors

Fawn - is a tan color with a black mask

Mantel- is all black with a white chest

Harliquin- is black and white

Merle - is white and gray

Brindle - is black and brown usually striped

our Daisy is a harliquin and Jasimine is a merleaquin ( part merle and part harliquin).

Jazzy came from the shelter at the age of 3 monts after being shoved into a recepticle at the shelter.

Daisy came to us at approximately 6 months after being found running up and down an alley eating out of garbage cans.

Billy is the one eyed Beagle in the background. He came to us from a neighbor who was going to dump him in the woods after he kept getting out of his yard.

Thanks for the compliments, but you CAN'T have them!! lol

There are all kinds of Great Dane rescues out there with needy Danes.

Well, I know I'm a little late, but I've got a Dane! She's still a puppy at this point (she'll be 19 weeks Sunday) but she's our big baby! Dakota is a Harlequin Great Dane that went to the vet yesterday and weighed in at 55 1/4. I don't have any pics w/ me (shhh, I'm at work) but the link to our image station photo albums (of which she's the main star) can be found below!

Mugsy- that is so kind of you to rescue those pups! Billy the Beagle- I like that name! Its so cute! The Ashland area is pretty nice. I am in love with the LaCrosse area. Its right on the Mississippi River. It is very "hilly" over in that area, and it is a very pretty place to live around. Plus, you don't get the freezing temps like the Ashland area. Obviously it gets cold in WI- but it is even worse way up north. Glad to hear somebody else likes my state, besides me. I've only seen about 3 WI pals on here :( oh well!

Anyhow back to danes........

oh Mugsy and Dakotahs'mom....i just love your Dane Kids!!!! i went to imagestation and checked out your puppy pics...they are fabulous....you have to share the wall unit one!!!!!

and Dear Mugsy....all your Rescue of 15 are beautiful...i didn't realize that 2 were danes...they are both GORGEOUS!!!!!!
love the unclipped ears also!!!!
if John let me loose i don't know if i would stop at 15...i also envy you guys!!!! and respect all you do for Rescue animals and organizations!!!!;) :)

Dakota turned 19 weeks on Sunday and when we had her at the vet last Wednesday, she weighed in at 55 1/2 pounds. I still can't believe it! However, I also can't wait to bring my two to Ohio some time so I can meet this new dog and so everybody gets to meet my two babies! Plus, they'd have a blast running around with the other 6. That means we have 8 dogs running around now, almost enough for dad's softball team, LOL!

HI,
my aunt got a Great Dane from the animal shelter last month and didnt have him for a day or two(his name was Duke) when he stopped eating and drinking...she took him to the vet and the vet found out he had all kinds of problems...savere case of heart worms, kennel cough ,heart and kidney failure,liver failure.....and my mom said that she purdy sure there much more..so she ended up having tp put the poor doggie to sleep i think the 3rd or 4th day that she rescued him.....he was really sweet and nice....Black and white i dunno what you would call that though.......

what a sad story! At least he/she was rescued and put to sleep humainly. Good thing it didn't have to suffer anymore at the pound. That was very sweet of your aunt to do that.

I just looked through all the albums of Dakota and Destiny!! They are so beautiful! And together they are even more stunning! You must be so proud! What a great looking family you have!

Of course Dakota's still growing! She just turned 6 months yesterday. She's almost as tall as me when she stands on her back legs, we found that out just the other night. We're not sure about Destiny though. She's now 9 months but we don't see much of a chance since we got her. Oh well, we'll love her just the same. Plus, if she doesn't grow, her name will fit her even better, DesTINY, the tiny dalmation, LOL! Anyways, I'm personally wondering if since she had a really bad start for her first months or so living at a home with too many dogs and not getting fed, at least not enough, if that may have stunted her growth. It has happened in humans, can that happen with dogs? My thought is that it can.
