Geoffroys Cat!

Hey everyone, I just wanted you guys to get a sneak peak of my soon to be kitten! He is a Geoffroys Cat, a miniature leaopard from South America. He is still on the bottle. Isn't he just adorable. He will be added to my collection of exotic cats, my spoiled little Bengals. And the great thing is, my fiance agreed! Whoo hoo! Here is his pic.:D

Any idea for a name. I like unique cat names. I already have Mystic, Cheetah and Houdini. I was thinking something wild cattish, for instance Cheetah....she was named because she has tons of spots. Hmmm......:confused:

Is this a wild cat brought up in captivity or a domesticated cat? I have never heard of a Geoffrods' (spelling??) cat.

How about Panther?

Geoffroys Cat? Hmm never have heard of it. Are you getting him as a kitten or is he alreayd full grown?? More pictures please. O and some pictures of your bengles would be nice :D I'm a big fan of Bengles!

I really have no clue for a good name. That sure is a pretty exotic animal! :)

Yes, they are wild cats brought up in the home with other cats and people. They are bottle raised from ten days old. I believe both parents were brought up in the home also. I am going to contact the breeder again in a few minutes and see if she can send me some more pictures. :D That is the only one I have.:(


But now my fiance has decided maybe we should wait for a melanistic kitten instead! Melanistics are all black with darker black spots. Or we can wait for Safari kittens, which are hybrids from the Geoffroys Cat and a domestic. Hmm, I think it would be nice to have a melanistic, I am fond of black cats. Here is something interesting I found out about some wildcats.


"A number of wild species are domesticable. Modern pet cats are domesticated African Wildcats with a few assorted genes contributed by the wild species listed above. The Geoffroy's Cat is so domesticable that some zoologists are surprised that South Americans did not bother to domesticate them in prehistory. The Margay also has the tendency to become tame. Another species where at least some individuals are tame is the African Sand Cat. Living in desert regions, perhaps it did not come to the notice of humans. The Rusty-Spotted Cat is reported to interbreed naturally with domestic cats in India. Its kittens are reported to become tame and to make good pets though this has not been properly verified. "

They are very small, between 6 and 9 pounds, the hybrids are bigger though.:) I would love to get both but I already have three Bengals.:D

Does he really look like that in real life or is it just the picture? You should sent it to Feline Medical Curiosities at Messy Beast. Did you see the link I put in the Cat General section?


There seriously are winged cats though. But of course they are not real wings. I believe it is either extra skin or something else weird. But hey, they sure do look cool.


Yes perhaps two is not so bad, considering some people... lol! :p
