I was looking in the local paper the other day at the giveaways. There are always dogs and cats on there. Well I was reading this one add. It was this person giving away a retired show dog, it was a german sheppard. I guess that the dog was no longer useful to them so they are just giong to give him away. I couldn't believe it, this dog probably did everything he couldto please his owners and they are just getting rid of him. It is so sad, I never watch dog shows because so many people treat those dogs like possesions and not pets. If I had the room I would have phoned and picked up this poor boy. Hopefully someone will take hima nd he will have a better life.

I am glad they are trying to find him a new home :)
There are some people out there, that once the animal has served its purpose, would have picked a worse route. :(
I will keep my fingers crossed that he will find a new home that will love him, no matter his age. :)

Don't you just hate seeing or hearing about that.
When we adopted Phoebe from Rotti Rescue, I read the stories on other Rotties she had for adoption and there was a dog that was given up because he was too old to be a show dog anymore. That dog had won trophies after trophies for the owner I guess as he didn't know the diff and when he was too old to win money and trophies for show, they gave him away! Why oh Why are stupid people allowed to have animals!
Could you contact GSD rescue in your area and alert them about this? Maybe they can save him. I am sure a free GSD ad in the paper will not get him into an appropriate home :(

We don't really have specific breed rescue groups in our area. There is the humane society and a couple of no-kill shelters. We are not a really big province so no need for it. I looked in the paper today and he was gone, so I am really hoping that he has found a good home.
I know sometimes the animals that are given away in papers get good homes, as that is how I got my terrier x Bobbie. So I will just hope that he has found a wonderful home that will treat him like a pet and not a possession.

I hate people who GET RID OF animals. I realize that some people might have to find them a new home because of DESPERATE situations, but it's those words:"GET RID OF" that really burn me up.

I read a "free dog" add this weekend...GSD/Boxer mix, housebroken, good with kids, etc, etc., at the end...must find good home, fiance hates pets. I asked Ralph if I could call and advise the person to give the fiance away and keep the dog!

It's very common for breeders (another reason I loathe them) to adopt out retired show dogs or cats. Once they've reached their championship status and have produced litters (the status is so the breeders can BRAG about the offspring thereby asking ALOT of money). It makes me mad too. My cat Faberge (a munchkin also called "shorty") was no longer of use to HER breeder because she had to be spayed because of an infection called Pyometria, thereby she wasn't able to have babies that would make the breeder alot of money   Her loss was my gain :D :D :D .
Another reason I loathe breeders so much is because there are so many unwanted dogs and cats out there, without them adding to the overpopulation.
As far as the fiance is concerned, say ciao baby!! Love me, love my cats (or dogs as the case may be).

I have a pillow in my room that tells everyone how I feel. It says "Adore moi, adore mon chein" meaning love me, love my dog!!! Luckily I have a animal lover for a fiancée.
