Huge prayers for poor Yodie. I wonder if your regular vet would have a different idea for her? Dr Lee has done the right thing, but sometimes a second look from another vet can help.
I wish there was a more comfy collar she can wear. There is a softer one that has spines like an umbrella, so it folds down when the kitty lies down.
Hugs and prayers to Yodie and you!

Oh Mary, I'm so sorry to hear that poor Yodie is so uncomfortable and not feeling all that good. There are always plenty of spare prayers around here so don't ever hesitate to ask!

I mentioned a different type of collar and they don't have any there but I suppose I could get one online. I was told, though, not to chance it b/c she's so expert at getting the collar off and a softer one might be even easier for her.

Poor Yodie. I sure wish that mess would clear up so she could get back to her normal routine, and you could get some rest from kitty issues for a while. When does she go back to Dr Lee?
Maybe you should give that soft collar a shot. Maybe your other vet carries them.
Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

She'll see Dr. Lee on Jan. 5. I'm really afraid to try the soft collar. They had to tighten this one b/c she kept managing to get it off and it would be swinging around her chin in the morning, the little Houdini. When he called to see how Yodie is doing, I told him how uncomfortable she is and he warned me not to give in to her by telling me of another patient of his: "I have a couple w/a dog that needed to wear a collar and they felt bad for him, took the collar off and rigged some type of contraption made from a Tshirt, thinking that it would keep him from getting at his ear. The next morning he had scratched half his face off." It was probably an exaggeration but I got the point. If I risk it and Yodie does manage to reopen that incision or spread the MRSA, I have no one to blame but myself.
Don't think I'm unappreciative of your comments, Candace and Ellie. I'm not. I just am so afraid to do anything that would jeopardize Yodie's healing but at the same time, my heart aches for her b/c she's so miserable.

Poor Yodie. :( More prayers & healing thoughts on the way.
Mary, before you dismiss using a soft e-collar take a look at this one
Comfy cone (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=20390&cmpid=02csent&ref=3665&subref=AA&srccode=cii_9324560&cpncode=25-24745050-2) (More info about it here (http://www.drugstore.com/qxp199666_333181_sespider/the_comfy_cone/soft_e_collar_20_cm_medium.htm))
Or maybe one of these two recovery collars which are a different design..

Edit. I can fully understand your reluctance to try any of them on Yodie, I think perhaps I would be too given what could happen if they didn't work. {{big hugs}}

They both look so comfortable but I am leery, I'll admit. Plus Yodie gets so much food inside her collar when she eats that I have to wipe it down every time. If I have to take her collar off to wash it each time, she could do some damage to her incision. I thank you, though, for researching this for me and for posting it. My little girl appreciates it, too.

Tomorrow morning Yodie Yodie goes to see Dr. Lee and have the outer stitches on her ear removed. I don't like how her eye looks but maybe Dr. Lee will have some encouraging news for me. Let's hope. Keep those prayers coming, friends, please.

Prayers for Yodie and you!
I hope the stitches come out without incident...and that Dr Lee might consider another style of collar. He's the expert.
I hope that Yodie is more comfy and healing soon!:love::love:

Prays for Yodie today.
I know what you mean about the soft collars. I got one for our little man but he didn't seem very comfortable with it one and the plastic one at least we were able to cut so it was a little easier for him to wear.

The good news is that Yodie's incision and eye are healed! Yay! I thought it looked bad but it's b/c Dr. Lee told me not to be aggressive in cleaning her up for fear of reopening that incision. I'd wipe her down as best I could but he actually gave her a bath while I was there. He chuckled and I heard him say "Stop growling at me already. I'm taking you back to your mom". LOL
The bad news is that she has to wear that collar for another week. I asked him if I could switch her to a softer collar and he said "Mary, they just don't work well on cats. They chew through them and I know this one (he pointed to Yodie) will do more damage. One more week and then you can take it off her". I said "Can she come live w/you then b/c she's really mad at me? Boo is mad at me, too." He laughed and I said "How 'bout if I let her bite you then?" and he chuckled and said "Sure, why not?"
She's lost a pound b/c she isn't eating as much due to the depression but after the collar's off, Dr. Lee is confident that she'll gain the weight back. I hope she gets her personality back, too, b/c she just mopes around w/her head hanging down, the little drama queen. She'll go back in a month for a reevaluation and to check on the MRSA. She's to stay on the MRSA antibiotic and she's off the Mybayotic ear drops but she has to stay on eye salve although a different one. Jeez, no wonder I have to make charts of all the meds and schedules for everyone.
Well, I'm being glared at right now, so I'm going to make a cup of tea to warm up a little, then I have a ton of errands to catch up on. Thanx for the prayers, everyone. I know that PT prayers work. I'll take a pic of her later and post it.
ETA: Forgot to mention: he didn't charge me anything for today, not for the checkup, not for the suture removal, not for the bath, nothing but the meds. I think he may have felt bad about the last two procedures and how hard it was on Yodie and my finances and also w/Pidge dying. Whatever the reason, it was nice of him to do that.

Good news all around. Now you can start the count down to the removal of the head gear. Ya hoo Miss Yodie, only 7 more days. Tomorrow 6 more days and so on.
I thought of a funny story when you commented that she's being a little drama queen wearing the collar. My RB dog Sami used to make me pay for making her wear the collar. She'd ram it into my legs just as hard as she could. Leaving little half moon bruises all over my legs. :D

Oh yeah, she loves doing that, too, except I get it in the head during the night when she wants her head scratched. LOL I'll bet it hurt, though, w/Sami b/c Yodie's little and dogs are stronger. Aren't they a stitch? :p

That's very good news! Yodie may not enjoy another week in the collar, but I'm sure she can handle it. Patience, Yodie, patience!

How nice of Dr. Lee to do today's appointment at no charge. What a good vet!
