A rescue organization has asked me (they don't know anyone else experienced in trapping) to trap some cats near a Suffield nursing home. The employees were feeding them and were told to stop. We're not sure if they are feral or friendly. Won't know till I get there.
I'm just glad it's not raining out like yesterday. The cats will be brought to a local vet hospital at which time they'll be spayed/neutered, ear notched and vaccinated. If they're feral, they'll go back out. If friend, we'll try to find homes for them.
The only issue is, I have to keep a low profile. If the administration of the nursing home gets wind that I'm on the property, I could be arrested for trespassing.
Wish me luck!!!

Wishing you success!
But howcome the Admin doesn't WANT these cats helped? They should be happy someone is stepping in to solve their issue.

Freedom,
Sheer stupidity, that's why. They consider them a nuisance. There's a woman across the street from the facility that is missing two Siamese cats, one a kitten, who wants it back if I catch it. Ain't gonna happen. Anyone who is as irresponsible as she is by letter a baby out doesn't deserve her. We'll see what happens though. I'm told I'm only allowed to trap 3, according to the head of the rescue org. That chaps my a$$ because what's going to happen to the rest of them, if there are more??? It's not fair.

It certainly isn't fair that YOU should go out and trap them, without any help from the administration of that nursing home! What are they thinking! They should either help or let their staff feed them! Bring 10 rats and let them free on the property and see if the administration like that any better!
Good luck trapping them, I hope they'll find homes. :)
Good luck if you need help let me know, I'll help in way that I can. You know my number. I can be there in about 2 hours.

SUCCESS!!!!!! I was able to trap 2 of them. A 6 month old tabby and a big ole Tom cat.
The director of operations asked me what I was doing there and said "You do know you're on private property." I told him I did. I introduced myself and told him I was trying to trap some feral cats that were on the property. I told him I would leave if he didn't want me there .(yeah right, there was no way I was leaving). He was kind enough to let me stay. Hey, I'm not the one complaining about the cats so it's no skin off my nose.
Sardines did the trick!!! The Tom cat was feral and will probably have to be put back once he's neutered and vaccinated. The kitten didn't seem at all wild and will probably get a good furrrever home. The thing that bothers me is the administration does not want these cats fed. I worry about what will happen to them.
Hey John, Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it.
So now my car smells like sardines!! EEeeeeewwww!!!! But I feel great. I feel like I've made a difference. I only wish I could've trapped more.

I don't understand the reasoning of the head of the rescue organization, telling you that you can trap only 3 cats.

Mary,
It has to do with $$$$$$$$, plain and simple. I'm going back out there today to get one more cat. The weather is perfect for it and I don't want to take the chance of the weather being crappy tomorrow.
I wish I had $$$, I'd trap a couple of more. But unfortunately the cash cow is dry so I have to do what I can.
I'll let you know when I get another one. At least it'll be 3 cats that will be warm and safe this winter. I think Thomas is the big daddy of all the kittens as they have very similar markings. He sure won't be getting any, anytime soon.

It's great that you managed to trap two! What do you think they'll say if you show up with two more. ;)
Thanks for helping them out, Donna! Good luck with the next one! :)

I was told to only trap 3, as that is how much the rescue organization would pay for. It stinks. There are other cats there. It breaks my heart that they'll have to live out in the cold with no one to feed them, as the administration has forbidden anyone to feed them.
I didn't trap another one. I might've spooked the other ones after trapping their two buddies. My friend Nancy and I are going to try again this Friday. I was just too tired to sit and wait. I did leave a whole bunch of sardines and cat food. I refuse to let them tell me I can't feed these poor babies.
That dumb as hell, but I know that you will do your best. WE all thank you for hard work. Like you say at lest 3 will be safe.

Is there any way you can get the media involved or the Humane Society or somebody? To forbid anyone to feed those cats is just plain cruel and if the administration were cast in a bad light, maybe they'd change their minds. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Ya know, Mary, you may have something there. Maybe if I got the media involved, people might be willing to donate for the vet care.
Geez, you'd think I'd take my own advice once in a while.

Bring your camera and get some shots next time. Then send them to a newspaper and tell the story - and tell who won't take a responsibility, but just let them starve to death. :( They could at least allow others to go and feed them!
