If you're using KMR to feed kittens, make sure it doesn't have an "off" odor:

KMRŽ Powder Update (http://www.petag.com/news_detail.asp?RegID=14)

According to the notice, some KMR powder may have been exposed to excessive heat and shouldn't be used.

:) I never used the powder.. I always ordered my cans of KMR fresh from my Vets.. I would always make sure it was within the dates..

OMG!!!:(:(:(

I have an unopened can (had an opened can I donated to friends in rescue). I checked the exp. date and it's 5/2011. It's the stuff I fed Rocky and his sister with (they both died!). I called KMR. She said that the only way to find out if the can is good is to open and smell it. If it IS bad, she said you'd smell a rancid cooking oil smell, which I did not.

Symptoms are instantaneous, diarrhea and vomiting.

I'm calling my friend who I gave the opened can to have her check it.

If I see that date on the can it is in the garbage. powder or can. If I have t I will go to near by shelters and find a nursing mom. Right now I am lucky that I have no kits.
By the way getting it from the vets does not always ensure it is fresh. You don't know how long it was in the distributors, under what conditions, before going to the vet.

I have had that trouble with a few cans of SD Turkey where the time limits are right, but it has an off smell, and nobody wants it.:eek::eek:
So far its only be 3 cans , but I am wondering why the rest of the cans are all right, and these are not!!!
:confused::confused:

Hi, I have a can of KMR powder that smells very different form the others and since starting that can last night my kittens have all developed yellow runs. They had about 4-5 feedings of this bad can, so I am really hoping I caught it soon enough and they will recover quickly with a fresh can.
Bad as it sounds, I'm hoping the KMR is the cause of their runs, so its not something more serious....
wish me luck!!!

:( Oh no I am so sorry.. Yes if its yellow runs I would say its from the milk.. I would say throw the powder away & get them the can of liquid milk.. Good Luck & Prayers that your babies will be fine & do good..
