Amazing events have been occurring in our household over the last couple of weeks. Jessica, our mummy cat, is at least 16 and could easily be 18. She was a feral cat and raised two litters that we know of outside - possibly three - before we managed to catch her.
Jessica is a very self-contained, stoic cat and demonstrations of affection are not high on her agenda. In all the years we have had her not a sound has come out of her mouth, other than the little mini hisses she utters as we try to catch her and take her to the vet for her annual check up.
Imagine our shock then, when we traced an odd, rumbling noise coming out of the kitchen to Jessica! Daisy is our mega-purrer, but she was not that close, and Samantha was nowhere to be seen. It could only have been our Jessica, purring while eating! Stunned, we were. It was not a one-off event either. We have heard her purr on two separate occasions since.
You are never too old to learn a new skill. :D

Isn't it wonderful when there is a major event like that with one of them? That IS a big deal. May she learn and advance to other major events that makes you and her happy.

That is awesome. Purring is one of the best qualities in a cat. She may just have some more surprises for you. :)

Isn't that wonderful! Now that she knows how to do it, you'll hear more from her - and she may start meowing loudly too. :D
Fister didn't say a word for the first many years, but now we're having long conversations. :)

Maybe it is because of those catmobile trips she has been taking!

Maybe! Who knows what she could have learned by meeting kitties from all over the world.

My mother oftens tells of a cousin she had. He was four or five and never spoke. At a family gathering all the adults were discussing (again!) why he didn't speak.
He must have been tired of being talked about. He finally spoke up to say...I don't have anything to say!
So perhaps Jessica just finally decided she has something to say!

How wonderful.:) Hopefully she'll continue to purr daily now.:)
It's interesting that you said that Daisy purrs all of the time because my Storm does too. These sweethearts now have something in common other than their blue grey fur.;)
