Looks like she has cancer, she is probably on her way out very shortly.

I can't do details right now, but I just wanted to let you know before she's gone. Thank you.

I lit a candle for her yesterday http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/message.cfm?l=eng&cid=9244863

Pat, I am just heartsick to hear this.

I checked back, and it seems Peony is about 15 years old...and that is a very long time for yours and Peony's love to really connect you deeply.

{{{hugs}}} to you and prayers for a peaceful passing for Peony, for her sake and yours.

I think I can say that all of PT is here for you...you, who are always lighting candles for others.

My heart hurts so much for you. It is so unfair that our babies get these terrible people diseases! We are all here for you. I hope that you can feel the love being sent your way.

Thank you all for all the good wishes and prayers and candles.

Peony has kidney and liver issues, so I have been giving her fluids for quite a while. She was eating very little starting about a week and a half ago, then didn't want to eat at all for the next couple of days (Thursday and Friday).

She has been to two different vets the last two days, who both have seen her before and know varying amounts of her history. She has a mass in her abdomen, probably some in the lungs too. And she's dehydrated and has fluid in her abdominal area.

The first vet gave her 300ml subQ on Friday and said if she was still dehydrated Saturday to take her to the emergency clinic for IV fluids. And she gave her Metronidazole for an increased WBC, which we'd been working on for a while.

Peony was still dehydrated on Saturday, plus a friend sent me an article by a vet saying Metronidazole should be used sparingly if at all on cats with kidney or liver issues.

I took her to the other vet for a second opinion. She gave her a steroid injection and pills (prednisolone) and supplements to see if we can give Peony as much good time as she can have. She's keeping her on subQ fluids but upped the amount. She also noticed that Peony's breathing was somewhat labored and told me if that gets worse over the weekend to take her to the emergency clinic to let her go, as that is frightening for a cat to have a hard time breathing (as it would be for me).

She is eating again, not a lot but with enjoyment, yummies like baby food and juicy flaky Fancy Feast several times a day. So I figured, if she's eating and enjoying her food, she's not QUITE ready to check out, and I'll call Dr. Lewis (the second vet) tomorrow morning.

But I noticed the expanded abdominal area, I guess from the excess fluid. I also noticed her breathing problem, but I don't know if it's worse than yesterday. Now I'm wondering if I should take her to the emergency vet to see if the abdominal fluid can/should be drained, or if that can wait until tomorrow morning. (I wish this wasn't happening on Sunday!)

Thanks again for all your good wishes and prayers, and for the candles. Peony and I are both happy and grateful for the light shining on us.:love:

Its always so hard to see Our Cat Companions, once so lithe and lively become older and ailing before our eyes, I know that one day I will have these same problems with My Senior Found Cats , aggregate age of 53 human years.
:(

Thank you again, all you kind folks, for all your good wishes and prayers and candles.

I called the emergency vet clinic to ask them about whether I should bring her in tonight .. to have the fluid drained if they could, or, sigh, to be euth.. I said, a positive sign is that she eats small amounts often and enjoys it, but negative the fluid and labored breathing. The person with whom I spoke said it was pretty much up to me. Then she said the doctor was presently in surgery and there are other patients waiting, so she'd check on what might be a good time to bring her if I'm going to. She said to call back around 8pm (it's 7pm now). So I guess I'll do that. It would be nice if they could drain the fluid and make her comfortable for a while longer.

I hope she can be comfortable for a bit longer, Pat, especially as she is enjoying her treats.

I have heard other PTrs say that our furbaby will let us know when...if Peony still enjoys some things and is not in pain, then that's a sign she's not ready to go.

Prayers for some gentle and clear advice/help from the vet.

She's gone. ER vet said she was too far gone for draining the fluids to be any help. She's anemic, very dehydrated (and I'd just given her 100cc fluid). Vet said her system is already starting to shut down.

I was crying away. I asked, couldn't draining the fluids give her a little more time? Would there be a specialist who could perhaps help her?

I kept saying, I'm so sorry, Peony.

I held her at the end. Kept petting her and saying "I love you so much!"

I'll see you again, my dearest Peony, one fine day.
