My cat Peaches has some issues. One issue is that she needs to learn to respond to her name only. She will look at me when I call her these names-Ashes,Alison,Peaches,Cheyenne,Speedy,Tigger, Butthead, Soapy, and Poopy. But that is not the only issue. The main one is that Peaches is a scardy cat. She runs for the stupidest reasons. For example mom put a knife in the sink. She ran. We put our foot up and at times she runs. Sometimes all we have to do is say her name and she runs. She used to live in the streets and I am shocked to see what freaks her out. Its ether fear or she spends too much time with Cheyenne my guinea pig because my guinea pig is a scardy cat as well.

we have a cat like that, his name is Romeo... He's learned his name since we got him... He has a similar story, except we believe he was abused as a kitten, and now is afraid of many things, and just about anyone who is a man. Overtime though, he has lost much of his original fears, and though still skiddish, we think he might be getting better soon; though it may be another few years.

"Street" cats are scared. They have had to rely on their wits; everything is a potential threat. This is not abnormal and it will take some time to subside. Pinot (my girl) was SUPPOSEDLY not a "street" (or feral) cat when we adopted her from the shelter, but she has a lot of the skittish tendencies, too. Just try and be calm and soothing as much as possible; it'll be OK.

As far as the name - that'll NEVER happen. Cats respond to what they wish and it's part of their charm! ;)

We have a few cats like your Peaches, just give lots of LOVE and a calm atmosphere. If you want Peaches to learn her name, call her PEACHES...give her a treat when you call her and she comes to you....she will learn her name eventually. Good luck....

Thanks for all the advice. Most of the time when I call her the odd names she just looks at me. And it doesn't work all the time. So I will work with her to have her remember and learn her name.

And for the scardy cat thing THANK YOU. I don't have to worry so much and I will keep on spoiling her rotten.
