Happy Birthday to Pet of the Day and Dog of the Day and Cat of the Day!

It was 13 years ago today that Paul and I first launched PetoftheDay.com (http://PetoftheDay.com), and didn't know if people would like it, but we love pets and wanted to try to honor them. A few people had sent in their nominations even before we had the site up, and it has been up and running ever since!

As the first year went on, we got far more nominations for dogs and cats than guinea pigs, birdies, or bunnies so a year later, again on September first, DogoftheDay.com (http://DogoftheDay.com) and CatoftheDay.com (http://CatoftheDay.com) were "born!"

We want to thank everyone who has sent nominations over the years, and encourage everyone else to send in their nominations, too! We treasure the fact that many people have told us they visit our sites for a daily smile, or a bit of good news in their day. We know that teachers use the site in elementary school classes to encourage reading and class discussion. We have learned that textbooks in some European countries now include the site to encourage children to not only read, but write to us in English. And We have learned more about animals than we ever expected.

Had you asked us if, thirteen years ago, we could have predicted that the site would have a community with over 2 million posts and thousands of members and followers from so many countries, we would have had no idea. But we are glad so many enjoy the site, and hope you will tell friends about it, too! Let's make this year our best ever, and thank you everyone!

This is the one and only forum that I belong to, and spend way too much time here, but it has been a blessing during the times that I was housebound due to illness or injury. Hi Karen and Paul,

Right from the start my experience with computers has been extremely negative. For better or worse Soncat needed one for college and we stumbled onto Pet Talk while trying to figure this thing out.

Well, I got hooked rather quickly with so many pictures of wonderful kitties. PT has been an extremely valuable learning experience on anything kitty and there a several dynamite people I'm proud to call friends.

I still have a deep distrust of anything computer. Pet Talk is the one and only exception, it's the only website I even consider going to.

When I joined Pet Talk, I had never been a member of a forum before. I was pleasantly surprized to see so many friendly petloving people sharing stories - and later pictures. I have had so much fun here, and unfortunately also sadness, but I have made some really good friends, and even traveled to see some of them... reminds me, I must update the "Who have you met" thread. :D

As someone posted earlier, I, too, had just gotten my first computer (was it in 1999? I think so) when I stumbled upon your wonderful site, and spent countless hours here while getting acquainted with all this new-fangled internet stuff. I don't post nearly has much as I did back in those early years, but am still loyal and never miss viewing the POTD and COTD. For some odd reason, DOTD became blocked a few years ago at work. I'm just thankful the rest of your website remains accessible.

I have enjoyed it here since day 1... well since day 1 I came here (4.5 yrs ago)... came thanks to a google search for huskies.. and I HAD to register ... I´ve met the most amazing people.. not only because of their kindness but also because we all share the love for animals and understand us each other without thinking were nuts.. well we might be but it totally ok...;)

When I joined Petoftheday.com in 2005, I didn't know what I was jumping into. This forum has helped me through so much including the death of my first dog and my budgie, Star!
