I had my cat Boo x-rayed so my vet and I talked about things that animals swallow that show up on digital x-rays. He said that he had a patient that was a Great Dane that swallowed an entire afghan! He told the owners that it's something w/fringe on it and they said "Oh! It's probably the afghan. We wondered where it went!" Can you imagine?

my vet surgically removed a TV remote from of a dog once. While working in the kennels I sure saw a lot of weird things that sucessfully completed the entire journey without surgery: ponytail holders, candy wrappers, and quite often the red rings from bologna edges. Saw my share of fish hooks on x-rays too. I assume they made it through OK since the animals didn't come back for surgery.

You'd be astonished at some of the amazing-looking things they pulled out of horses. Usually thier body would start to calcify the offending object but eventually it got stuck and had to be removed. One horse had something that looked like some sort of exotic tropical fruit that was cast in stone. It was about the size of a small melon and was green and lumpy. The vet chipped a hole in one side to find a big wad of baling twine. That little jewel got dried out and put on display.

One Christmas Koko ate a tree ornament. It broke up but she chewed and swallowed the broken glass. It was a holiday but luckily the Emergency clinic advised us, over the phone, to give her Peroxide to induce vomiting. We inspected vomit all evening. It looked like she ate the whole tree full of ornament from the amount of glass that came up. We held our breathe for a week hoping it all came up and none would cause damage. Thankfully we dodged the bullet and all was well.

Wow, an entire blanket. That's impressive! Finn's eaten and passed a myriad of things in his six years so far. One of the most memorable was a disposable razor, blade and handle. Came out in two pieces, and he was no worse for the experience. He ate an entire watermelon recently. Rind and all. I came home and it was just gone, not even a sticky floor left behind.

I'd like to see that rubber ducky xray!

How in the world did he swallow it w/out asphyxiating is what I want to know.

I was reading this to my BF, and had to specify that it was the blanket afghan, not the dog.

I caught RB Cody at his last gulp of a nylon knee high. I was on pins and needles until it came out in tack with poop inside. It was amazing. My jaw dropped!!

My RB Peke-a-poo Charmin did that and swallowed it w/out my knowing. It did come out but it was a struggle. Honestly!

ya know, I can see small things like the knee hi, or even a scarf... but an afghan? Medusa's right, how did he not choke...
The strangest, most embarrasing thing my dog swallowed was a tampon (unused) he picked up on my daughter's floor... he was having trouble poopoing & I saw the string so I grabbed a grape leaf & pulled & was just laughing & laughing at this strange dingleberry ;)
He needs to be watched constantly cuz he'll swallow anything that isn't tied down LOL

I learned (the hard way) with my RB Lilly, that if you see them passing something, you should never "help" it. Can tear the lining and cause internal bleeding. Better to contact your vet, immediately, if you see something like that. :(
