Dog
German Shepherd Dog
Size: Large
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
I.D:
Notes: Corrine is a very sweet female german shepard mix. She is extremely affectionate and would be a great dog for an active family. She has just had pups, so her coat is dull. With a little good food and some love, she would be gorgeous. She is around 2 yo and is heartworm negative. SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED AS EARLY AS 9-25-02
This is Corrine. If nothing goes wrong, by Saturday she should be safe in a rescue and looking safely for her forever home. More details to come.

What did you do for the beautiful girl, Sue? I'm so glad you could help her out. What a precious girl she is!

Here's the story.
Around Sept. 23rd, Corrine was posted on the GSD bb with an out (kill) date of Sept. 25. It was thought that a GSD rescue in IL would pick her up. She was going out to check her out. So we figured she was safe. Then early morning Sept. 25, we find out the rescue did not pick her up. The reason I found out later was that she did not look like a GSD, so her rescue would have trouble finding her a home, since anyone contacting them were looking for a GSD. She said she looke dobe-ish. So we all posted our "so very sorrys and why does this happen...". In the evening, we find that they did not put her down. OK, she's alive!!! There's hope. We kept "bumping" her up on the list, but there were no takers. We find that Corrine is still there on Sept. 27. Her time is short and no one interested!
By the 28th, I was getting nervous. No one was stepping up for this beauty. One of the seasoned rescuers suggested that someone should e-mail area all breed rescues. She got a lead and asked if an IL person could call. That's me. I did. I spoke to a lady and she gave me some hope, but no guarantees. Then I e-mailed 13 rescues. The other rescuer e-mailed 9. I got a few hits. One said she maybe had a foster, but didn't contact me back. Then on Monday morning, a volunteer from a rescue 2 1/2 hours away from Fulton contacted me.
This wonderful volunteer said that she would do what she could. She took the info I sent to her shelter manager and asked if they could take her. Now this rescue is across the street from a kill shelter, so they are always pulling dogs. It so happened that there was one cage open and if Corrine could qualify, she could be taken in. Well, after a whole day and a half of negotiations and questions between the volunteer and I, there was a possible chance for Corrine. With help from the bb rescue person and GSD rescue contacts, Fulton and the volunteer spoke and the rescue would take Corrine IF she was up to date on Parvo and distemper shots. They would have to have been in her system a while, so the shelter would be safe. Well, it so happens that the place that Corrine was in, does not give shots to the adult dogs, only puppies. Was Corrine out of luck? NO, fate has it that she was brought in as a stray with her puppy. Since they gave the shots to the puppy, they gave the shots to her, too!!!! Soooo, Corrine now has a temporary home til she finds her forever home. She is saved. Of course another problem cropped up. Will the rescue hold her cage til Saturday when she could be picked up or will they give it away??? (Sweat, sweat....) YES, they WILL hold the cage open for her til Saturday. Also, someone may help transport her to her new place, too. Whew!
Now until this gorgeous dog is safely at the rescue center, I will not rest, BUT it is looking good. As of right now, Corrine is saved. Hopefully nothing unforseen will come up to ruin her chances for life now.
So, today I helped save a life. Boy, was it stressful.
If anyone would like to champion a soul, choose one from www.petfinder.com and e-mail all the area rescues. Send them the dog's link to the webpage and just ask if they could save them. Who knows, you just might be able to save a life, too!!
Sorry this is soooo long.

Sue,
Congratulations and BIG HUGS to you on a job well done.
I can't even imagine the stress level involved here, but WOW.
Corrine is going to be alright. YEA !!!
I know ALL breed rescue groups are constantly overloaded
by the need for rescue of these sweet babies, but would
she really be refused rescue by a breed specific group b/c
she looked Dobie-ish? She looks GSD to me. She's Beautiful.
Please keep us updated on this sweetie when & if you can.
Hugs & Congrats from Indy.

Everything's a go for her for Saturday. Woohoo!
However, I am working on a long distance e-mail campaign for a dog named Neal scheduled to be pts at 4:30 today. It does not look good for this boy. He is in Spalding in GA.

Spalding County is one where many dogs are PTS, Sue. Many of those north Georgia communities have an overflow of dogs and not enough people to adopt them all out. All Pets Rescue has saved many from there, but never enough, unfortunately. :( He sure is a beautiful boy.

Oh, Logan, I know so well of Spalding. The GSD bb has pulled many from death row, but there are just sooooo many. Still working on this one, but I am not optimistic. :(

Sue,
That's GREAT news. I can't see his picture now, but did this
morning. Neal was the one with one ragged looking ear &
those sad, sad eyes? My heart just dropped in my chest when
I saw him and then read that things didn't look good for him
at all. I hope he gets to a great home where he can be spoiled
rotten. Poor baby deserves it.(They ALL do). Thanks Sue.

Yes, it was the one with the cut or torn ear.
Yes, they pull their pictures if they are killed or rescued on that day. They are very efficient. I'm waiting to see if they put him on the happy endings page.
He is alive because one kind soul pulled him, but now he needs a home to go to. That may be the hard part. Anyone interested??:D

Sue,
This dog really touched my heart when I saw him.
I will pray like crazy that other people get to see him,
see his picture. This little one looks like he would have
a lot of stories to tell. I pray that he gets the chance to
share his life & stories with someone who will love and
appreciate his specialness. Thank you Sue for all your
time & effort in helping him & others find forever homes.

Oh Sue! So glad Neal was pulled. You are doing a great job. Spaulding is several hours aways from where I live. I wish I could do more pulling out of the shelters and fostering, but my lil monster Drake won't allow it :( The doggy can play in the yard, but he can't come near the front door!

As I print this, Corrine should be moving on her way to her new rescue residence, til her forever home finds her. WOOHOO. I'll get an update on how she settled in on Monday.
The white GSD mix with the torn or cut ear still needs a place to go. Haven't gotten an update on him yet. Please say a prayer for him. This is Neal.

Good news up-dates:
Looks like Neal's future is looking a little brighter. He may be taken into a white GSD rescue in CA. Let ya know for sure later.
Wonderful news!!!!!!!
Corrine was transported Saturday and she was a perfect angel. The rescuer said she sat quietly and watched her and her Mom the whole trip. She stopped at Mom's house and met the neighbors and their nieces. She was wonderful with all and they loved Corrine!!! When she was brought to the shelter, the rescuer stayed with her and walked her and got her settled in. Another volunteer was readily waiting to walk her again and take care of her. She is so loveable. She seems to like kids and other dogs, too. The rescuer said that they should have no trouble getting her adopted!
When I get a pic, I'll post it. The rescuer said that she is only 49lbs. but she sees definite GSD in her, she can't think of what else she might be mixed with. She has owned a dobe before and she does not see dobe in her. She is just small and has hair shorter than most GSDs, but not unlike a short stock coat, but longer than a dobe. Can't wait for a picture.
Will post more up-dates as they come in. :D

Thanks for all the hero and angel ratings, but I don't feel like one. I am just soooooo glad that these dogs were not killed. Every time I try to save one, it is because of Killian, his personality and how close to leaving this world he came. What a loss that would have been. He has brought so much joy to us and good feelings to everyone he meets. (He's a love!) He's a champion of the wonderful personality a shelter dog can have. How sad if he was sent to RB without spreading his joy.
I do this to save the dogs that touch my heart. (I'm going to stop looking for a while, though, cause this is way stressful!)

Happy news!!!! Today Corrine went to her forever home. A nice woman and her 10 year old adopted son took her home. Ironically, there was another person on their way to the rescue to adopt her, too, but they missed her by a few hours. She truly was a wonderful dog!!!! Lucky Corrine, lucky family!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!
