Abandones Kittens......Questions

Hey there,
If anyone has the answers I am all ears. Anyways today at work there were 3 two to three week old kittens found. The mother no where to be seen. Something must have happened to her, they are all healthy (going to the vet soon to determine), all fat, loud and purring. Anyways out of the three there are two kittens suckling on the tummy of one. I want to know if this is normal and is there anything i can do to stop this:confused::confused:. HELP!!!!

Thanks for rescuing them! I don't think it is anything you need to worry about, it's just instinctual. Are you feeding them kitten formula, and are are they pooping okay? Glad they'll be going to the vet, just in case!

that was another question i had, i have stimulated their little tummies and they are peeing like race horse but no poop, is there a specific method i need to do?

Perhaps they poo only after eating, and not after every meal? I did volunteer in a shelter but though I saw other people taking care of very small kittens I never did it myself, so I don't know enough to answer you. I am sure many other members will do it better. :)

If they are well fed, it's possible someone just dropped them in the street and kept the mother!

I always thought the "action" of mama cat preening the new born kittens helped with the the poo movement along.

You can take a piece of cotton and give them a gentle massage on the lower abdomen after the eat (not sure I translate well in English, sorry if it's not clear). Then you clean when they have peed or pooed.

yeah you have to rub both openings seperately to get pee and poo

I haven't read any of the replies you got back so I'm sure someone has helped you by now, but we have 2 kittens (they're around 12-14 weeks) and they suck on each other's stomachs and they also suck on our little dog's stomachs too and they just let them. I think they are thinking back on their child hood;)

Medusa is right you have to stimulate both openings. a wash cloth soaked in warm (not hot) water works very well. It is coarse (a cat tongue is like sand paper) enough to get the job done. Just rub the openings gently. I have done this with a number of kittens. Make sure that that get plenty of kitten formula.
