Woah this is a biggie, it was in the bottom of the south Island, i live in the North, so long way away, but was actually felt in the bottom of the North Island, apparently not too much damage or any casualties, that is so darn lucky, let us all hope there are no more, scarey, i so hate even hearing about earthquakes.

I hope no one was hurt, and that everyone is on the lookout for any resulting tsunami, with New Zealand being an island nation et al.
Stay safe, little kiwis!

You know it is amazing, no-one was hurt and minimal damage, i cannot quite believe it myself, it was the biggest we have had in 78 years, yeah i felt scared just hearing about it myself, far enough away really ,but still too close for my liking.
Yes Karen there were warnings, but it seems to be ok,no huge waves, thank goodness.
If you use Firefox you can get this earthquake alert add on for it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2239
According to mine you have had 2 'quakes in the last hour off the west coast of the south island.

Oh my God.. So glad to hear you are okay and there were no injuries and minimal damage. And may you stay tsunami-free, too.

Thanks everyone for your concern, i never even felt anything, but apparently it was felt as far away as Sydney Australia, hard to believe i noticed nothing here.there were reports of lots of after shocks, but no more news, so hopefully that is going to be it,i am hoping so for all of those living there., fingers and all paws crossed eh?
