OK, who is NOT crying over the story of Skittles???
What a wonderful pet you had in her. She had quite the personality. Each of us (and I mean humans, not just Pet Talkers) Longs to have a bond so close. Be joyful in the fact that you got to know and love Skittles and cherish her baby in her memory.

Oh, sweet little Skittles...How your story of love and devotion melted my heart. What a darling, delicate and beautiful little rattie girl I see. You may be a tiny soul, but no creature ever had a bigger heart nor knew a greater love than that which you shared with your proud human. I know your Mommy is very saddened at your passing; how she loved you so. But I hope she takes comfort in knowing that at this very moment, at the Rainbow Bridge, you are happily scamerping in sunny, flower filled fields, healthy and whole, awaiting that day when you and she will be a team once more. Thanks for sharing your lovely love story with us all. It was an honor and privilege to meet you. And Skittles, it is my privilege to congratulate you as today we honor you our most beloved and cherished Pet of the Day and Pet of a Lifetime.

I know I had a tear in my eye over the story of Skittles. It reminded me so much of my beloved "girls". I bought my first rats about 5 years ago. When Daisy and Lily passed I said I couldn't do it again. Then I bought Hoover and Eureka and on their passing I said not again. I then had the opportunity to foster a rat (I am now her permanent mom) and of course I said yes. Foster needed playmates, Addie (for adoption) and Aurora "Rorie" (named for a town on the way home from the Humane Society) and so they came to live w/me too. And although these 3 misbehave constantly I have now decided that I will never be w/o a rat-girl in my home. They have all pulled me through some really hard days. Rats are under-rated as pets. With their love, devotion, some times love-licks and nibbles they are a joy to have. I'm so glad Skittles mom was able to feel all of that even if it wasn't as long as we would have liked. I have become a rat "advocate" since I brought my first girl home so it makes me very happy that people share their stories of the love.

Thank you so much for telling us the story of Skittles. What a sweet little girl she was and a loving, wonderful companion. I know she is at the Rainbow Bridge right now playing with all the other animals who went before her and she is happy and whole again. Today you are being honored as our very Best Pet of the Day. and our sympathies go out to your loving family.

I never wanted a rat for a pet before, but my boss asked me if I would like a cute little mouse. The mouse was in a cage with a snake for two days, but the snake didn't feel well and didn't want to eat him. I said yes, I felt bad for him because it must have been very traumatic to be in a snake cage for two days. He turned out to be an albino rat. I was afraid of him at first. I couldn't even sleep with him in the room, but I got over that quickly. Harry, grew on me. I would bring him hotcakes from work, his favorite food. He would rip them from my hands like he never saw food before. I would let him run around my room at night. I learned that the term pack rat is true when I saw my headphones go under my bed. I looked and found a pile of stuff I was missing, he even had my health insurance card. Now when I see rats at the pet store, i think of Harry and smile. He passed away too, maybe he is playing with skittles in rat heaven.

*sob* Sweet little Skittles. I hope one day you will be with your loving owner again who will give you yoghurt to put all over your little head. All my sympathy to you dear owner for your terrible loss. Skittles ended her days with someone she loved and who loved her, rather then in another animals stomach. Her life may have been short, but she ended it being loved and comforted.
