Hi everyone,
Some of you already know this but I had to make the difficult decision to put Starr to sleep and I did it this morning.:( His health had been declining lately and he had been having more bad days than good days so I knew it was time. I've been in denial about this the past few months. He had been battling IBD/Colitis for about 2 1/2 years but unfortunately it won.:(
I was going to wait until Sunday but I just couldn't watch him suffering any more. Life can be so unfair sometimes and he was sick most of his short life. He was only 4 years old.:( Now he's in a better place and finally pain free and at peace. I'm sure that my Pepper is showing him around Rainbow Bridge and he's meeting all kinds of new friends.
Here's one of the last pictures that I took of him in early June.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/krazyaboutkatz/My%20Cats/NewCatPics6-7-09050-croppedresized.jpg
It was an extremely hard decision to make but I know in my heart that it was the right one. I just wish that it didn't hurt so much.:( I'll miss you Starr but I'll never forget you. I  you Peepers. RIP sweet boy.:(

Sweet Starr of golden hue and sky blue eyes
Your time here was so stormy, filled with pain
But now you are beyond that, and only love remains
You were loved, and you were treasured
And even at your sickest, you loved right back
And that, shining Starr, is your legacy:
Love, endurance, patience and Love
And okay, a few golden hairs scattered across the Universe
But mostly
Love

Oh no, Tracey, I had no idea!! :( Of course I knew about Starr's IBD, but I had no idea it was this bad! :( I'm so sorry!!
I remember Starr from his very first days here at PT. It's hard to believe he passed on, he was still so young... You're right, sometimes life isn't fair. But for Starr, the time of suffering is over now.
R.I.P. sweet Starr,
you will be missed!

Noooooooooo! I gasped when I saw this. I had no idea. I guess I was in denial too. I am so, so sorry for your loss.
It just doesn't seem right that he was sick almost his whole life here on earth. I know that he his happy and healthy now, but I just can't stop crying.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of him. He was blessed to have you as his meowmie.

I just wanted to say again how sorry I am you had to make this tough decision, but I agree that Starr let you know it was the right one. He was certainly one lucky cat to have a meomie like you. I don't know anyone that is more dedicated to their furries like you are. You did more than probably anyone else would have to try and fight this disease and Starr knows you loved him. I know how much you loved your peepers and I'm glad he is now painfree. I'm sure Pepper will take good care of him.

You're all giving me major LES here.:( Looking at his kitten pictures that Candace posted was very hard.:( I've been in denial about his illness for quite a while and I kept hoping that he'd get better. We both fought hard for the past 2 1/2 years but I was becoming emotionally and physically drained and also very stressed out. He wasn't getting any better and his body was starting to give out.:( I don't like to keep my animals alive until they're at deaths door. I didn't bother posting about it on PT because I didn't realize how bad it was either.:(

Oh My Goodness not Starr!
Another Dear Cat gone long before his time.
Thatwas an incrediby hard decision Tracey , and sad to say the right one as none of us wants our loved ones to be in that kind of pain.
Starrs at the Mandarin now where he got the first plate and the first selection before having his night with Willy at Michaels Inn.
Starrs such a Wonder Cat , and we know he will find a good job with the Animal Angel Army and will have found a spot where you all can be reunited in love.
One Fine Day.
Oh Tracey, Tracey - I am so very sorry. I know how extremely hard these decisions are to make and my heart goes out to you.
Take comfort in all that you did for Starr and how he loved you for every effort on his behalf.
My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Dear Tracey, I am ssssssooooooo sorry that poor dear sweet Starr has passed on. I write this with tears streaming down my face, as I know how you are feeling right now after having our Willy put down at the same age and being in denial on how sick he was, but not knowing really just how sick he was.
It's so very hard to say good-bye, but knowing deep down inside, it was with love for your Starr that you had to let him go to end his suffering and to be at peace.
My heart goes out to you and I pray that you find comfort and peace in the fond memories you made together. May they help you overcome the pain.
Hugs to you friend.
Rest in Peace beautiful Starr you were so loved and will never be forgotten.

Oh Tracey, I'm so very sorry! :( It's such a tough decision to make, but I know you did what was best for Starr. It was much too early. You have helped him so much through these past two years, and he loved you for that. :)
Starr is now romping at the RB with the other kitties and the pain s gone. John will be stroking him and make sure he's comfortable. The RB has got a real Starr now!
Rest in peace, sweet boy! You will never be forgotten!

The good that we can take away from this, though, is that now Starr is living a pain free life, the life that he deserves and the life that you tried your best to give him. Prayers are going up for your healing heart, Tracy, and of course, for our Starr that he'll RIP. (((HUGS)))

I know how difficult a thing it was for you. When I had to have Miley put down, it broke my heart - and it is still aching. When a cat looks healthy but you know they are in pain, and it won't change for them, there is not much else you can do for them.
I hope Starr runs in to Miley girl and they spend lots of time playing, without pain and discomfort.
You did the right thing.

Tracey...I'm so sorry about your beloved Starr:love::(...We here at PT all share your grief today, and most (if not all) of us have been where you are. He knew how much you loved him, and as you said, he is in a place now where he has no more pain or sickness, and is running and playing happily in the sunshine at the RB...

Thanks so much everyone for all of your nice comments.:) I'm still getting major LES when I read them. Tonight at feeding time, it seemed so strange not to have to feed Starr his babyfood mixture mixed with his herbal supplements.:( I know I'll get used to this in time. My cats didn't seem to mind because they could be fed sooner.:) Before any one even mentions it, no I won't be adopting another cat any time soon. I've realized that I need to decrease my numbers not increase or maintain them. Hopefully I won't have to go through this again for many many years though.

That was very brave and loving of you, to release Starr sooner rather than later, you gave him one last great gift. The pain is very great, I know, and you carry it with you wherever you are and whatever you do for some time. Try to keep bringing to mind his fun times, the cuddle times, the crazy kitten times.
I had no idea he was that sick, and it's difficult to imagine such a young cat (who doesn't have something obviously dire like cancer) being so very, very ill. I think my Darcy is ill in a similar way with inflammation in his colon, interstitial cystitis, and some stomatitis. It's near impossible to believe that a young adult, looking wonderful and acting playfully though perhaps not vigorously, can have an illness that is basically putting the body into constant fight mode. I have had a tendency to blow out of proportion the positive signs - such as decent appetite, loving attention, chasing Maeve under the chair, convincing myself that proves he's really okay, and not letting myself really think about the bad signs. This is like a wake-up call to me to face what I don't want to believe, what I really want to down-play into near insignificance.
Starr was very lucky in his guardian.

Tracey- our thoughts and prayers are coming your way. This poem came to me yesterday, and I would like to pass it on to you:
REQUEST FROM THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
By Constance Jenkins
Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest.
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts.
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath,
Rember not the strife,
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.
Your Starr and my Yoshi could have been twins, so I am giving Yoshi extra huggies today - just for Starr

Thanks again everyone.:) I don't know if any one here believes that our pets come back and visit us but I do. My Pepper has visited me several times but my current roommate has seen him many more times than I have. She told me tonight that she's already seen Starr 2 times.
The first time was when she came home very late on Wed. July 1st which is when I had him put to sleep. She saw him on the catbird house and she thought that I wasn't able to go through with putting him down. Then she looked again and he was gone.
She saw him again very early this morning at the foot of her bed. He just sat there and squinted his eyes at her and then he left. Pepper was also there and they took off together. She said that he now has a much thinner body so his small head looks more in proportion to his body now and his legs look longer and leaner too. I told her if she sees him again to tell him to come and visit me. I'm sure that my cats have already seen him too.

Oh I am so sorry the hear this tonite... I remember Star mainly because of you being so kind and helpful on here. He was new to you when I was getting Chloe.. I find it remarkable that the two of them went within a week or so of each other. It's so sad...I would always take comfort in his remarkable eyes they just got me... He was a real joy in pet talk and I will miss him horribly. I take some comfort in knowing that maybe he was able to show Chloe around the bridge.. Major hugs from all of us..

Gee whiz, this is so sad! We are loosing thses babies so young and so many at a time. Starr was such a beauty! I always looked forwards to your threads looking for pictures of him.
RIP Starr, you were so loved, by many, many people. You were a STAR here and we will all miss you!

Yes, Starr was far too young.:( I was just reading through some of this thread again and I started getting major LES.:( I know that Starr's now in a better place but it still hurts so much to lose him.:( Tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since I let him go. I can't believe it's already been this long.:(

Isn't it wonderful how many admirers the beautiful baby Starr had on here? He was well loved and obviously a very special cat that he had this appeal for so many. I certainly found him irresistible with his sweet pale face and big blue eyes, he looked like a little teddy bear. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Sleep sweetly and play and run happily and free, our little friend. Take care of yourself KAK and thanks for your message.

Starr, I can't believe that it's already been 1 year that I had to say goodbye and let you go up to Rainbow Bridge.:( I think about you often and I try to remember the good times that we had together. I know that you had such a short life with me and most of it was miserable for you. I'm so sorry about that.:(
I do know that now you're pain free and I'm sure that both Pepper and Sunny are there with you. I bet you've made a lot of wonderful friends at the Bridge. Some day we'll meet again. Until that day, I'll never forget you, I'll always miss you, and I'll always love you sweet baby boy. Please come visit me any time you want to.
