My sweet little boy has been losing fur :(

My parents took him tot he vet this morning (I was at school) and the vet isn't quite sure whats wrong yet. She gave him some drops on his back, and said to come back on Thursday.

She said it could be mites, or it could be a allergy... those are the most likely 2 things.

Can you just keep my sweet boy in your thoughts please?

Thanks.

Poor guy! My rats recently somehow contracted mites(I think one might have brought it back from the vet's office) that caused a bit of hair loss. Its no fun to deal with, but I have some spray that is doing nicely.

Sending good thoughts Kenco's way. :)

Thanks..

The woodshavings have been replaced with shredded paper.... the vet says he could have an allergy to the woodshavings...

He is fine in himself, it does look very sore though bless him... he has lost almost all of his belly fur, and part of the fur on his face..... :(

Please keep my boy in your thoughts and prayers... thanks

Na, hammies don't know/live together.... they are syrians, so if they did they would fight....

Anyway, I noticed a bit on his face before Chino went to the bridge, but just assumed he must of got it caught on something....

So sadly it is not that simple :(..... Just hoping he gets better soon.... it breaks my heart to see him like he is... I mean, it can't be comfortable for him at all :( My poor baby....

Oh poor little guy............ Hope you feel better soon and your hair comes back. Please give him a kiss from Aunty Mon across the pond and maybe some egg to eat. It's Penny's favorite, she almost bites my finger off to get it so is so mad for it. Kisses little man.

Well, it's mites aparently.....

His fur on his stomach is growing back, but his sides are getting worse.... the vet says he has to come in once a week for 6 weeks to get rid of the things... my poor little boy :(

We are just trying to stop little Karno from getting them as well now.... how easy that will be I don't know.... I put their cages quite far apart but I can't put them in seperate rooms atm... so yeah...

Please hope that Kenco gets rid of these pesky things soon!

Thanks.

Karno still seems clear of the things....

Kenco is ok, his fur on his sides has grown back but he has lost a lot on his sweet little face :(

Vet said it is going to carry on moving about until they are gone.... gonna be another few weeks yet though...

Thanks everyone :) He's slowly going to be getting better and I am sure the good thoughts are helping ;)

Mites can easily travel even across a room and they can live off the host for a somewhat long amount of time. You should have both hammies treated and clean everything, dump bedding and food and hope that you get rid of them. I had a lice issue recently but I also researched a bit on mites and they are apparently a pain to get rid of. I know this post is late but I thought I should warn you anyways. ;)

How is Kenco now?

Thanks, I know. We have been disinfecting everything. Karno still seems ok, and as long as he stays ok, I see no point in treating him also. We have to take Kenco to the vets once a week, and I do not want to have to take Karno with me as well, because that would make the risk of him getting them greater (would have to carry both boxes in the car, and they would be close together). So yeah, if he shows any signs at all, of course we will take Karno, but not now.

I know they are hard to get rid of.... our vet informed us it would take at least 6 weeks..... so yeah... just doing all we can for him.

To be honest, it's hard to tell how he is because they travel. One bit gets better, another bit worse. I actually just missed seeing him awake (been out all day, so haven't had the chance to look at him properly) but yesterday he seemed a tiny bit fluffier... but it is really difficult to tell.... vets on Friday, so she will have a good look at him then hopefully (if she is there this time... we only had a nurse last time).

I am about to have Kenco put down... vet said the meds aren't helping much and he is finding it difficult to breathe etc :(

Oh, Ellie, I am so sorry!!!! I know you've done everything you can for him and you love him so very much!!

Kenco, sweetie, have a safe trip to the Rainbow Bridge. Your little bros will be waiting for you and keep you safe. Lots of love goes with you!:love:
