Has anyone ever had a serious reaction with their cat after a vaccine? My cat stopped eating and now after several tests is going to have a feeding tube. I'm very concerned and just want to know if others have had this experience

I've never heard of this happening before. I'm so sorry to hear this.:( Does your cat get stressed out easily? If so then maybe the extra stress caused this. My Ziggy stresses out a lot so I think that this is why she's sick now. I hope that your cat will get well soon. Prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

Several of my cats had reactions to the distemper vaccine, lethargy, and not eating. NEVER a reaction like your cat had....I sure hope he/she will be OK...please keep us posted...

Several of my cats have had reactions to vaccines over the past 25 years, some serious enough that the vet advised they not receive that vaccine again. However, they all eventually started eating again by themselves. Some cats go into fatty liver disorder very quickly when they stop eating, and some seem able to survive weeks without food and not get a fatty liver. Once they have fatty liver, the only course of action is forced feeding and, since this can take weeks, the usual method is via feeding tube.
I'm sure your vet will give you lots of advice on how to feed a cat with an oesopheal tube but one thing I will stress is to make sure the feed is warm enough. Not hot, of course, but a little warmer than tepid. You have to think about how warm the food would be by the time it normally gets to a cat's stomach. I've seen one cat go into very serious decline because it was fed not only cool food, but also far too quickly. I always give 2.5cc, rest for 10 seconds, then the next 2.5cc. Also, if your cat becomes restless or starts to lick her lips it usually means she is about to throw up, so stop the feeding. Some vets don't think to use an anti-anxiety medication when a cat has a feeding tube but I've found they really help in the first few days when they are getting used to a tube being in their throat.
Good luck and I hope your cat comes through this okay!
Was the vaccine distemper or feline leukemia?

My RB Puddy always had reactions from immunizations. She'd go under my bed and stay there to come out only to use a litterbox. My vet finally told me that as long as my cats were all indoor that shots weren't necessary. I'm so sorry that your cat is having this problem. I do hope that s/he feels better soon.
