If you'll recall, some time ago I posted about Suzy who rescued Betsy who was found in a shed w/her newborn kittens. She couldn't even bite through the umbilical cords because she had only one tooth. Suzy waited until the kittens were old enough to place in permanent homes and then she had Betsy spayed. He also gave her a B12 shot which was very painful for poor Betsy. Later that day she began to bleed and later died. The vet will perform a necropsy today because he doesn't understand what caused her death. Suzy had decided to keep Betsy because it had been determined that, according to the vet, she was 9 years old and had had a "terrible life". These last few months were good for her, though. She received as much food as she could chew and as much love as she could handle. We just wish that she could have stayed w/us a little while longer so that she could be loved even more. RIP, sweet Betsy girl. Visit your mom Suzy on occasion. She can't seem to stop crying.

Poor Betsy. You had a rough life, but were loved for the last little while.

That's a shame - poor Betsy. And just when things were looking brighter for her.
RIP dear Betsy. I'm sure that you will have a grand time at RB, and will experience joys that you never knew before.

I just got off the phone w/Suzy. Apparently, Betsy had an allergic reaction to the pain medication that was administered after spaying and she also had a collapsed lung. During the time that she stayed w/Suzy she had what appeared to be a constant URI that just wouldn't clear up. The vet didn't think to take a chest x-ray. Had he done that, he would've discovered the collapsed lung. He said that Betsy apparently had it the entire time. So it wasn't a URI; it was the collapsed lung that was giving her problems. I can't help but think that if my vet had seen her, he would've wanted to take a chest x-ray immediately. Well, hindsight is always 20/20 and I don't mean to cast aspersions on this vet but it makes me wonder.

Sometimes its our turn to go, and you certainly did the best you could for Betsy. With a collapsed lung she would not have had much of a life My Pouncer had a collapsed lung, and she was so weak that it was a kindness to let her graduate to being An Angel.
Betsys in Germany where they are having a night for her at a Beer Hall where shes now big and healthy, and the first plate of sausages is all hers!
And she loves you, and her spirit will be with you until she can rejoin you in Paradise!!!
One Fine Day

HUGS and prayers to Suzy. She gave dear Betsy the BEST life and love she ever could have had. She was already in 'heaven' when Suzy took her in.
Only time will ease this pain...the heartbreak just hurts so much. Thank you, Suzy, for being there for her.
This is no one's fault - "shoulda, coulda, woulda" is a part of everything right now. She is at peace now and happy at the Bridge.
HUGS again.

No. for sure it wasn't Suzy's fault. I guess it really wasn't anyone's "fault". I just have a case of the "what if"s. :(

What if's will drive you crazy. It was Betsy's time to go on to the Bridge and we sometimes just have to accept God's will no matter how it hurts.
Hugs and peace to Suzy; godspeed to Betsy - play well at the Bridge, sweetie, you deserve it!

Yes, you're right, of course. She was such a sweet gal. I wish for her a nice, long rest and then all the good food that she can eat.

Despite her first several years of who knows what, Betsy at least got to know what real love felt like, even if just for a small time.
RIP Betsy

Betsy knew only love these past weeks.
As for the 'what ifs' - what if Suzy hadn't found Betsy and her babies. They might all have died, alone and hungry. Now her babies can pass on the love.

Now her babies can pass on the love.
That's a nice way to express it, thank you. :)

Mary...Please pass on to Suzy how sorry we are for her about Betsy...Bless both of their hearts:love:...What a wonderful person Suzy is to take in poor Betsy and her kittens. Lord only knows what Betsy endured during her life, but at least at the end of it, she had comfort, plenty of food and care, and most importantly, love. There is a special place in heaven for people who take in and love unwanted and mistreated animals. Suzy was Betsy's angel, and now Betsy has become Suzy's purr angel. I'm sorry that Betsy died the way she did...Maybe it could have been avoided...Who knows? At least her last days were happy and filled with love, and she can be at peace knowing her kittens will be loved and well cared for. I'm sure she is happily running and playing now at the Rainbow Bridge...
