View Full Version : Thursday #320-Soup to Nuts?
RICHARD
06-10-2009, 02:29 PM
It's been crappy weather almost all last month.
Cloudy, cold and kinda humid. Soup weather.
I am boiling up a pot of Lima beans and pork. Any takers?:)
I think some kind of mulled anything should do the trick.
DONE!
-----------------------
The weather guy came out and said that we have had 27 days of below average temperature. The sun breaks through in the afternoon, but that is way to late for my taste!:(

Yummy! I love lima beans. Have never cooked them with pork but sounds good. I have some nice crusty bread to go along with it. I splurged and bought fresh bread and REAL butter from the store today when I was out at lunch time.

I also love Lima Beans.
However, instead of something murky to drink, would you please fix me an Amalfi Cocktail?

Yes!
1-1/2 oz citrus vodka
1/2 oz Limoncé Limoncello
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
2 sprigs lemon thyme or regular thyme
Put vodka, Limoncé, fresh lime juice and the leaves from one sprig of thyme into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain and pour into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprig of thyme.
And a bowl of beans.
DONE!
Happy,
I had a huge piece of pork loin that I boned. I set the bone to cook with water, onion and garlic. I let it sit over night then, took off the small pieces of meat still stuck on the bone. Today I did a quick boil of the beans, rinsed then drained them. I took the pork broth and tossed in a diced potato, diced onion, diced bellpepper, S and P....
Real butter, cannot go wrong there!
DONE!

Sounds yummy, but I was thinking more of this recipe -
4 flavored vodkas
blue curacao
mango and strawberry purees
Frozen and powerful . . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/March16th/hic.gif
At least that's the way they make it near Narragansett Beach.

Never worked at our house ...
Mom *insisted* the nappy was on the LAP before food was consumed.
And NO Dawg till I was in High School ...
and even then the Dawg wasn't allowed near the table (and the unwanted
Lima beans) - she had to lay in the hall-dining room doorway ...
too far to toss 'em.

Mmmmm, I could go for some homemade baked beans. We've got sun right now but expecting thunderstorms later. How's about some cream of mushroom soup? I haven't had that in a while.:)
Richard, I'll have a bit of something mulled, just don't mull over it too long, lol.

Where do you live? I grew up on the Narragansett Bay-that sounds like home! I also used to frequent a place called the Narragansett Cafe, but...
In any case, Richard I LOVE limas but I have never had them with pork, either - it sounds good to me, and your drink recipe sounds perfect!!
Orc, serve some of that up and try not to wear too much! :D

PM,
Sweat pants!
I was really surprised at the flavor of the soup-I did put a tad too much salt into it though...I bought a ham steak and used that to make some pea soup a month ago....It was a Farmer John brand product, but the meat was rubbery...So I thought to try lima beans and some pork!
One bowl and a drink...
And a b-day cake!
DONE!
LOH,
A brownie in exchange for a Mulled? And some Mushroom soup!
I am done mulling!:D

C&S,
A 'mulled'?

Rice salad?

I'll get the ceement mixer going (I was wondering, can you mull a slushie?). Orc, if you're done flinging lima beans around, I can use your help. There will be NO flinging slushies!
Count me in.
I have never had lima beans with pork.
Always a first!
The weather is sure crappy. I don't remember June being this glum.
At least ROcky is enjoying the cool weather.

It probably differs from one type of vinegar to the next. Cider vinegar is different from wine vinegar, is different from a balsamic vinegar ... and what any liquid is kept in will also influence its rate of decay.
Barkeep? Can I have a blueberry tea?

**waves** Hi everyone! :)
It's been a long time since I've been here. Life happens, right?
Well, I've been cooking all day so I thought I would share some of what I have. Sorry, no soup for you. :D
First off French Toast Strata and when it's all put together and cooked, you sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top.
Next, a savory strata with Fontana cheese, spinach, and ham.
Also included in this buffet is Mz Gini's hash brown casserole with diced (not minced) :D onion and grated cheddar cheese. Then it's topped off with a layer of buttered crushed corn flakes.
Oh yes, and here are some blueberry muffins and some tropical fruit muffins with pineapple and croissants.
OK, so it's all brunch stuff. I'm having 10 people over tomorrow so fingers crossed everything works out OK.
Bartender, I'm so ready for an ice cold beer.
**plunks myself on sofa**

Ingredients
1 quart fresh cider
1 large cinnamon stick
1 lemon, zested
Sprinkle clove powder
3 grates fresh nutmeg
Directions
Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Bring to simmer. Strain and serve.
On the other hand ... The front has shifted! It was 75 and sunny in Chicago today! Could I have iced tea, please?

-----------------------
I have a muffin story!
I went to my local store and grabbed a few bran muffins. It's a serve your self operation so I grabbed a few and felt that there was a 1/2 inch depression at the bottom. I didn't think anything about it until I got home and saw that the store has baked the muffins in a pan that hollows out the bottom of the muffin to save money. I figure it's about 1/5 the size of the whole muffin!:rolleyes:
