My cats use the litter box as soon as we come home. It is such a joy to watch them poop the moment we set foot in the door. Wonderful greeting.
Why do they wait for us to do it? I know that if I am home alone and have to go, I don't wait for anyone!
Do your cats do that, or is it just my pair that "vote" for us that way?

Mine always go AFTER I clean the boxes, and I don't know why. If I see them down there when I am, I put them in the box...kinda try to force them. Nope, doesn't work. Maybe yours just like an audience???

Could it be that they are sleeping and the sound of you returning wakes them up? - and then they respond to nature's call as well?;)

Edwina prefers an audience and often welcomes us home (and guests/repair persons) with a performance!

Emily and Schnauzi don't like an audience (usually). The only time they seem to like observers is while I am in the middle of cleaning the litter box (kind of like Kat):)

My cats also wait for us to get home and then use the box. And if one hears one of the other ones using it, they will stand by the box and when whoever is using it is done, they run out of the room and start chasing each other down the hallway and into the kitchen, sending litter flying all over my kitchen floor. Needless to say I have to sweep the floor daily.
My cats also love to use the box immediately after I clean them. They wait for me at the door as if they are telling me to hurry up and finish so they can begin!

I share a bathroom with my cats. We they have their own mini bathroom in my large bathroom. Corkscrew likes to go when I go. And if he doesn't have to go sometimes he will pretend that he is going then look up at me all proud like we had some sort of bonding experience.

Big C: My cats use their litter tubs when ever they have to, whether I am with them or not. However, usually, when I am cleaning them out, there are at least 2 or 3 of them that want to use them. Whenever they are given a clean tub with clean litter material, they will invariabley want to use it, and this is whether they have to or not. Sometimes I think that a cat believes that we humans want all of them, regardless of which end they present to us. This probably accounts for my lap cats continually placing their rear ends in my face. If an analysis was taken, I believe that their rear ends are more "available" than their face.:D

My cats never go when I am watching, (makes trying to get a fecal sample not much fun - I can never figure which poop came from which cat) except my new kitten, who hasn't developed a sense of modesty yet.

My cats don't have to have an audience to use the litterbox. They use it all day long while I'm at work. They also like to use it right after I've cleaned it in the morning.

I think I know now why the cats always seem to want to use the box just after or while I am cleaning it...tonight as I was cleaning one of them, Patches came running over and used it, like he couldn't hold it anymore... I think as they hear the sound of the sand being moved, or "scratched" it makes them have to go... kind of like with us if we hear water ? something like that...

Our three like to INSPECT the box just after it's been cleaned and there's almost a tussle to decide who goes first!!!
AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH Cinder and Smokey Boy - you do that as well!!!! Escorting Daddy (and Mummy's too) to the Baffroom is NOT really necessary - we can manage without an audience! Our three seem to think it's the Show of the Night!! Quick guys Mum's just goung upstairs - lets follow!!
Not only that - - don't tell anyone - - Ketchum has to sit on my knee!!!! Closing the door doesn't work - Ketchum shoulder barges his way in!! :D :D

Sally just goes whenever she wants. She is not enbarassed, nor scared to go when I am in the room, but if anybody else (especially my sister) is in there, she will wait until they leave. I guess it's just because I am always on the computer, and she is used to me being there day after day...:D
My dear Maya loves an audience too , Edwina !!!Maya always enters her litter-box , the very minute we start eating !!!
btw , her box is in the kitchen , just next to our table ....
