I just posted in Dog General that my brothers dog had cancer. He lost that battle suddenly this morning. I still do not have details of his illness, but it really doesn't matter anymore. :(

About 10 years ago (more or less) my SIL was at PetSmart getting food for their other yellow lab mix, Digger. She came down an isle and at the end of that isle a young pup (who reminded her of Digger) was peeking around the end of the isle. Just at the sight of him she fell in love. She ended up bringing him home with her. Go to the store for food and come home with another dog. :)
They named him Boo because of his "ghostly" coloring. Boo loved Digger and Digger was less than thrilled with the "puppy" that liked to chew on his hind leg when playing. But they got along without problems.
Some years later Digger and Boo went on a voyage across the street. When called back home Digger was hit by a car. He lived four days at the vet, then went to the bridge.
Three years ago my niece was at the library waiting for her mom to pick her up and came across a black lab mix puppy just wandering the streets. Her and her mom agreed they couldn't leave her there. So they took her, tried to find her owners and when no one claimed her she became their Lucy Loo. Boo accepted her with no problems either. I felt it was payback in a way because Lucy bugged Boo just like he used to do to Digger.
Digger was my "dog boyfriend", so when he was gone Boo became my boyfriend. He would sit in front of you and sit up on his bottom with his front paws on your arms while you petted him. He was the sweetest thing.
In a couple of weeks we will be going there for my nieces graduation. It's going to be so weird without Boo there. :( But I know Digger is showing him the ropes at the bridge and he is pain free now.

Here are some pictures I've posted on here in the past.

Again, I wanted to express my sympathy to you and your whole family at the loss of of a fur member. It sounds like Boo was quite the charmer. Thanks for sharing photos with us. Hopefully when you go to visit you'll be able to share good memories together and help each other with the healing process.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I finally spoke with my brother this morning. Not a smart choice on my part to call him while I'm at work. :(
Anyway, Boo was almost 10 years old (as I figured). And he was diagnosed with lymphoma (or lymph something) which was in his lungs.
As I also figured, Boo was such a mellow, calm dog the cancer had pretty much taken over his body already by the time he was diagnosed.

Sunday morning they were getting ready to take him to the vet because he was very restless and pottying a lot. He went to the bridge before they were able to get him to the vet.

Just like Boo's "brother" before him, he made it easier on his humans and did not put them through the agony of making the decision to let them go.

We all take comfort that Boo and Digger are reunited once again.

I still cringe when I log onto this thread. And reading about Boo is no exception. I'm SO SO SO sorry. I think I mentioned earlier that Boo reminded me a lot of my RB Cody, so the pain of his loss, hit me doubly hard. At least Boo isn't suffering anymore, whatever consolation that may be. My Cody is the "watcher" over the Bridge and I promise, will take loving care of Boo for you.

Thanks again everyone.
I honestly think this is the best thing. I believe he was actually in pain for quite some time. But since he is already such a kickback dog we didn't realize it. So now he is pain free and playing like a puppy with Digger (and all the other pets) at the bridge.
It's going to be difficult when I go up there this Thursday for my nieces graduation and he's not there. I think that's when it will hit me the hardest. :(
