When I came home today, I was in shock looking at Reggie. He was in the dog room (room w/ their food, crates, etc.) on the floor, legs all spread out. He tried to walk to me but his back legs kept going out on him. He was really out of it. I was wondering what in the world had happened to him! Apparently my dad had taken him to the vet (that is SHOCK! Nebo has been to the vet more in these few months then those 2 have their entire lives, I swear) for his ear. I had noticed a day or 2 ago that his one ear was bugging him. He kept shaking his head, but kind of jerking it instead. I looked inside of it and it was all red and odd looking. I told my parents he needed to go to the vet, but they ignored me. Apparently they changed their minds. I guess when my dad took him to the vet, he had to be put out to have it all cleaned out. The vet couldn't figure out what caused it, he said it really could be anything. Now he has to have some sort of crap squirted in his ear 3 times a day (oh this should be fun) and has to be on antibiotics. Poor pup, I hope it gets healed up soon. We need to clean out their ears more often. The vet mentioned possible causes are water (the last bath was probably over a month ago though), or even something in his ear such as a tick. It is possible he has something in there, as we go camping quite often. I hope he gets better soon, he looks rather odd holding his ear at a strange angle, lol.

Poor Reggie! I hope his ears starts feeling better. You gave me quite a scare at first before you got to the part where Reggie had to be anestathied! I was like OH NO!

I clean Drake's ears every month when he gets his bath. I have this ear cleaning solution that I purchased from Petsmart. Perhaps you could try something like that to help prevent further problems?

You said there could have been a tick in his ear? Is Reggie on flea preventative? Frontline kills and repels both fleas and tics. Advantage only works on fleas, but they now have KillTics that comes with the flea preventative. It doesn't cost anything, it's part of the flea med.

Poor Reggie! I'll bet he will start feeling a lot better now, Amy. You know, I hate cleaning Honey and Lilly's ears too, and I don't do it enough either. Lilly is headed to the vet for her annual checkup this morning, and i'm in hopes that our vet will do those ears for me! :o

We don't have fleas in Utah. So we've never really bought any of that stuff.......I guess we should for ticks though.

I'm going to have to get some stuff at Petco soon to clean out his ears. I won't do it for a while though, because right now he has that medication he has to have put in his ears.

Good news, after a few days of the pills and ear solution, his ear looks great. It looks normal, and doesn't appear to hurt him at all. He doesn't enjoy having that liquid put in his ear, but he really enjoys the pill...lol...probably because it is mysteriously covered in bread. :D
