Gosh it sure has been a week of it, we practically have earned our own special parking place at the vets this week i think, first Nikki , now her mother Ellie-mae.

I have been really concerned about her, she is one strange wee kitty anyhow, very highly stressed and easily upset, and rather odd from time to time, but just two days ago, she just went even stranger, she would not come inside, she would scratch at the ranchslider to get in as is her usual behaviour ,rather than use our cat door, and i would open it and she would run away, she would not let me near her, i managed to get her inside for the night the other night and tried to check her out, i could not find anything wrong with her.

We wondered if she had a scare, anything like storms, fireworks scare her,but she still comes inside later on, so that did not seem to be the case.

Last night i tried and tried to get her inside, no luck, so i reluctantly went to bed and slept uneasily knowing she was outside, i know she is used to it having lived as a complete outside cat for six years, roughing it, but still i like my furbabies all warm and tucked up in their beds and safe at night times, i left the cat door hoping she would come in, but no she did not.

This morning she was acting just as odd as ever, she was hungry because i gave her some food outside last night, but she only took about two bites and ran away, even though i left her to it, this morning when i put some biscuits near her and left she took one bite, sort of spate it out and looked at me as i was the worst person ever.

Luckily my daughter Melissa managed to grab her and she is now inside to stay until the vet appointment at 5.30 tonight, she is peacefully sound asleep in the couch now, but i am sure she will get stressed at not being able to get out soon, she won't be the only one stressed lol.

I am thinking she has a problem going on in her mouth, i am aware she needs a dental soon, and have been trying to save for it, but there just seems to be one expense after another, i am thinking maybe there is an infection in there going on, i could be well off base, but just by her behaviour i am guessing, she did however eat some food this morning and gobbled it down greedily as she was very hungry.

Please keep Ellie in your thoughts, it will be a very stressful trip for her and i am hoping there is not any bad news and we can get her sorted, even if she is just scared about something i will feel better knowing i had her checked out, even if i really cannot afford to do that, one simply has to, the poor wee girl may indeed be in pain, and i cannot leave her like that, not knowing.

Anyhow keep you all posted and let you know what the vet say's, we have Danielle tonight, she is just awesome, is so lovely to the animals, just what poor ellie needs a gentle soul to help calm her.

Thanks for listening.

well i guess i shall reply to my own thread, as no-one seems to be interested, but i wanted to tell you about my dear little girl anyhow.

I was horrified to see her mouth, i was right about her mouth, it was so badly inflamed, i have never seen anything like it, the vet said it could be an allergy or her teeth, no wonder she was not eating and hiding from me, i think every time i gave her some food , it hurt her and she would run away thinking i had hurt her.

Anyhow she was given four injections, steroids, antibiotics, pain relief and one other i cannot remember, these will last for up to two weeks and i will not be required to pill her, there was no difference in price and this will be much better for my little girl and me all round.

She is booked in on tuesday for her dental work, please pray that all will be well and there is nothing too sinister going on with her there.

It has been a very expensive two weeks with the kitties and one more big expense to go, luckily we had a free power bill this month, a loyalty thing our power company do, so that will help not having to pay that, and i will be able to pay for her dental, i am very relieved to be getting it done.

She is a lot better today, eating like a horse, i have mashed up her wet food with a fork and added some water and she is scoffing it down, making up for not eating the other day, and she is more relaxed, still hesitant about coming up to me and runs away at times, but she was out sunning herself on the verandah and had no problem with me patting her.

Your well wishes for Tuesday would be much appreciated, thanks.

Oh dear! What a sad thing for your dear kitty. I hadn't seen this thread before now. I will surely have your dear one in my thoughts. Hopefully they will be able to figure out what is wrong and help her feel better...SOON!

I just saw your thread, so I'll reply. I am so sorry your little girl was in so much pain and discomfort. That would explain everything about her strange actions, wouldn't it? I am sending up a prayer that little Ellie-Mae feels better very quickly! Give her a big hug for me, when her mouth feels better, that is.

Thank you both, Ellie is improving, and is much happier today, but she has not come in for some time, but that is usual for her anyhow, bit of a loner most times, prefers her own company, hopefully she will come when i call her soon, she was ok with me patting her this morning, and she is eating well now, so that is all a good sign, thank again for your thoughts, prayers and well wishes, we sure need all we can get , don't we.?

I'm just now seeing this thread, too, and I'm so glad that you were able to find out what's going on w/Ellie Mae. When I was reading your first post, I thought the same thing, that it sounds like something is going on w/her mouth/teeth. We'll keep the prayers going that the meds will work quickly and that she'll be back to her old self in no time. The dental appt. will tell your vet more, I'm sure. Keep the faythe, Carole.

Thank you everyone, Ellie -Mae has improved so much, she can now yawn without pain, she could not even do that,I still think maybe it is more of an allergy myself, but one never really knows, as her teeth were due for a cleaning, but it was not major or urgent, but every kitty is different.

She has her old appetite back and is eating like a horse, i have been mashing her food up for her to make it easier, but i think she is ok now, those long lasting meds have really done the trick and quickly too, she is not acting so weird now,but still a little cautious about coming to me, but more like her old self, she was warm and cosy snuggled up to us on the couch last night, and is back sitting on her favourite seat on the verandah in the cat shelter, i usually go out there and wrap her up in lots of blankets, she loves me wrapping her up and stays there for hours.

She will not like going to the vets yet again and for the dental, but i know in the long run she will be better off for it, this episode has just brought it forward, and it needed to be done and soon,so in some ways i am thankful, as it has been worrying me, and i will be relieved to get it done ,so fingers and all paws crossed it is just a clean and not much else.

No Ellie is the calico girl, and she is a beauty, and so full of character, i have never owned a cat quite like her, she is a bit nutty at times, and highly stressed ,but she is a delightful little fur companion, and she makes the most cutest chirpy noises, none of my other kitties do this, just my ellie.

Will keep you all posted and let you know how the dental on Tuesday went.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ellie-mae:( but I'm so glad that you were able to get her to the vets for a check up. I hope that her dental will go well and that she'll recover from it quickly too. Please continue to keep us updated about her. I know all too well about seeing the vet way too many times.;)

Thank you all, the trip to the vets went smooth, ellie was such a good girl this morning, just wondering why on earth i was not feeding her, i fed the other kitties in the hallway, and she did not seem to notice, nikki her daughter was on guard though and she knew something was not right, mind you she herself had only been there twice in the last two weeks so she was wary, when she heard mum yelling in the cage, she was off like a rocket outside, however she is ok now and came back in to eat and sit by the heater.

Ellie was such a doll, she did not even try to get outside,i had her in early last night, so she spent a long time inside, not to her liking, however she could not hang on any more, and peed in the carrier just before we got to the vet, poor wee girl, anyhow i went to see her in her cage at the vets, nice large cage and oh so warm in there, she looked at me as if to say, why are you doing this to me?

So fingers crossed the dental will go ahead, i was a bit concerned she has a cold as she was sneezing this morning, mind you it was only a couple of sneezes, meowmie just over-worrying no doubt, but i did mention it just in case, i can tell things are not 100 per cent with her mouth yet, but maybe the dental will fix that, keep those prayers and good thoughts coming, i want it all to go well and with no major upsets.

I was a bunch of nerves this morning, honestly how i got through raising two kids, i often wonder, furbabies are even more of a worry i think, in a different way lol.

Thank you all again for your support, it is appreciated.:)

hope it all goes well...I may also have to take one of my cats into the vet, I noticed last night she seems to be having trouble eating dry food.

good luck on your vet visit and hope kitty will be better soon.

well we picked Ellie-Mae up at 5.45pm last night, I don't think she had been done very long as she was still very sedated, on coming home she tried to walk around and fell over, she then plonked herself in the middle of the lounge room and went out like a light, i covered her with a blanket, she slept for at least an hour then ventured out promptly still wonky on her legs, she ate a little food, then i picked her up and put her on the couch where she stayed until we went to bed, i left her there covered her up to keep her warm and she was still there this morning.

She ate well this morning and, however i did notice she now has a weepy eye and seems to be sneezing and have a cold, so that concerns me, she certainly has not bounced back the way Ash did, he was like fine that first night.

Ellie has two back molars removed, as there were little pockets that were harbouring bacteria causing her problems and a scale and polish, all up $210 which i thought was very reasonable, she had a pain relief injection and still has on board the long acting antibiotics, anyhow i am hoping by tomorrow she will be more her old self, I miss my fiesty little cheeky girl.

I am certainly going to have to keep an eye on her, on top of that i know have a rotten cold myself so feeling a tad under the weather today, hopefully it is just mild and i will be better quickly.

Ellie has not really bounced back at all, i would not expect her to be 100 per cent, but she is not doing that great, it is obvious she is not feeling well, i rang the vet about her eye and they want to see her tonight, so off we go again, honestly we just about live there these days, however it will be no consult charge so that is something i guess, and i will be happier having her checked out, as i am not happy at her progress.

The good thing is she is eating ok, so that is a blessing, but in general she is one not so well kitty, please keep my wee girl in your thoughts and wish her well again, i am worried for her, she is usually such a fiesty wee thing, I so wish for her to be her old self again.

It will be so traumatic for her going back again, that is the worst part of it all, and i am feeling like death myself, but i want to go with her to comfort her and see what the vet say's, i know hubby would do it alone, but i feel i must be there for my little girl, i can sit in the back with her and talk to her and pat her on the way, make her feel not so alone.

So here's hoping they can find out if there is anything else bothering her, fix her eye up and she can be on the mend soon. poor baby.

My prayers are still with dear Ellie Mae. There's nothing worse than one of your babies being sick.

ok well somehow i seem to have two threads going,so i will respond here as well,i am blaming it on my cold and the stress and worry lol.,i am confused.

Ok we took Ellie to the vets last night, poor wee girl has got the cat flu on top of her surgery, and YES I DO VACCINATE ALL MY CATS, but because she was not before i rescued her, she probably had it already and they can be carriers, and because her body was under stress due to the gum problem and surgery, i guess her immunity is low and it set in, the day of the surgery i noticed her sneezing and i did mention it to the vets.

She had another pain relief injection and has conoptal for her eyes to prevent a bacterial infection getting in there, she is eating well, but i wish she would drink more, however Gabe the vet said she was not de-hydrated.

Gabe weighed her and she just sat on the scales looking miserable, never moved, she was such a good girl, she is improving ever so slightly, not a lot but is warm and cosy inside with me,we both are keeping warm, i am feeling lousy too, all blocked up and tired, but just got to get through it all, just want my little girl to be her old fiesty self again.

Hoping my other kitties are not at risk, lexie and Ash just had their vaccinations and Nikki is not due to oct, so should be ok, Ash is my main worry as he has the kidney failure and his immunity would not be as good, but i think they should all be ok, just got to concentrate on Ellie for now.

Thanks for your concern, will keep you posted on Ellie's progress, i knew something was not right with my girl, when Ash has his done , he bounced back the first night.

She is not even trying to get outside today, so i know she is feeling bad, it is a lovely sunny day down under , but has a bitterly cold icy wind, she is going nowhere, staying inside with her meowmie and getting better.
